And yet you have a picture of Faith of the Fallen as your avatar. Go go ironic conflict!

(incidentally, it is the book where Richard is responsible for saving the day in the most independent manner, and the one which really made Goodkin's Objectivist leanings apparent)

That concept has been used in hero tales for centuries... so yeah.

Main character who you control in the first person who apparently does not have the ability to speak, but nobody minds.

example:

Any character in HL2: "GORDON FREEMAN!"

Gordon Freeman: "...."

Any character in HL2: "I can't believe it's really GORDON FREEMAN!"

Gordon Freeman: "...."

Any character in HL2: "Come on, let's get to the next checkpoint GORDON FREEMAN!"

Gordon Freeman: "...."

It's not an overused concept... it's good game etiquette. In general, it's better to make the player character mute, because the ones who don't STFU tend to be irritating.

That's true but when everyone keeps saying the character's name hella loud then it's annoying that he never tells them "SHUT UP ALREADY! I GET IT! YOU LIKE SAYING MY NAME! NOW SHUT THE F**K UP!" XD

Kidding. I like a balance; a character who's an actual character, but knows when to be quiet. I haaaaate it when you're in battle in a game, and your chracter says the same 3-4 one-liners over and over again at random times during battle. *cough cough Prince of Persia cough cough*

Just because its an overdone plot, doesn't mean it can't be well executed by the right person. Terry Goodkind is a f****n genius imo. I can't wait for him to put out his next book. I heard its gonna be more modern

Ahh... Zero Wing. Despite the bad translations, I actually thought it was a really good game. Still one of my favorite genesis games. Anyone here actually beat it? I managed to beat it twice in a row once... I don't know how I had the patience for that stuff back then. But the secret ending was totally not worth it, lol.

Overused concepts in modern gaming:

The over-abundance of male protagonists.

Female characters, (this can include the very rare female protagonists) tend to be ridiculously busty, often with skimpy/ or tightfitting clothing.

The tendancy for the average FPS to have equally average weapons ie., shotgun, pistol and chaingun. :?

Games that involve doing missions in which you kill people.

Racing games

War games-blood, guts, scream, death, destruction. We've seen it all.

A lone soldier fighting against impossible odds on an alien planet.

Yes, I got that from Game Damage.

Also, I agree that pew pew is indeed fun. Just look at something like Unreal Tournament or the original Doom games... or pretty much anything by id.
