Warning: The following is a petty video game rant.

I actually like the Wii more than the other two consoles right now. I have more games on it that I like (Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Brawl, Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Punch Out!!), and there are more games that I'm looking forward to (Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Epic Mickey), than the other two. I have a PS3 (but no Xbox 360, because it doesn't appeal to me), and although I do enjoy the games I have for it (Metal Gear Solid 4, inFamous, Street Fighter IV), the only upcoming one that I'm really excited for is The Last Guardian.

Also, the "hardcore" criteria of video games really doesn't appeal to me. All I see are shooters, glitchy RPGs, RTS games, and racers, and none of those genres (with the exception of RPGs) interest me in the slightest bit. I've played Modern Warfare 2 and Halo, and to me there is nothing that differentiates them from any other shooter. I'm not saying that these games are terrible, I'm just saying that I really don't care for them.

I also hate it when someone pulls the you're-not-a-real-gamer-if-you-play-such-and-such-but-not-this card, because the way I see it, a real gamer is ANYONE who likes to play video games. It's fanboys and elitists that pull that stupid, biased card that makes me feel ashamed to be a gamer. I may be a bit cynical about certain games, and also a bit over-opinionated about the games that I like, but I do try not to shove it down other players' throats and talk down on them for having a different taste in games as I do.

And another thing, the reason why there are so many different video games out there is because different games appeal to different gamers. We all cannot like the exact same games, and there will always be at least one gamer that disagrees with the opinions of another gamer. Who is to say which gamer has the "better" taste in video games? I say let bygones be bygones, and just accept each others' tastes.

Sorry for all of that, I'm just a little sick of elitists (in RL I should add) talking down on me for liking the Wii, and not the games that they love.

I agree with you, this whole "hardcore" phenomenon grates on my nerves as well.

I don't think you've given it a fair chance, man. I find the controller very easy to use. I have many games that I've enjoyed very much. Punch Out, Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, Brawl, Metroid Prime, NSMB Wii, Strikers, Pikmin One and Two... Off the top of my head.

I see you claim to be a "HARD CORE GAMER!!!11!! !!1" That doesn't mean anything anymore. Today, a hardcore gamer is someone who drools at the news of the latest CoD, and eats out of EA's hand.

To me, hardcore gamer means that you still have your SNES hooked up to your TV and beat Chrono Trigger twice.

Also, more on topic. Have you hacked the Wii? There are so many more things you can do if you do that. (Plus, the games are free :p)

Yeah, I used to consider myself a hardcore gamer before I knew what it actually meant. Now I just call myself an oldschool gamer.

To me a hardcore gamer is someone who plays a variety of games and proceeds to finish them on every skill setting. But not restricting themselves to one type of game.

People's definitions may be different from my view, so I will not say mine is 100%

It's a shame really because the GameCube controller is one of the best gamepads I've ever played with. It handles like a dream.
I agree, that's why I'm so happy that the wii can play gamecube games too. My old gamecube finally died on me a month before I got my wii.

I certainly don't think the Wii sucks. I enjoy it, but that's mainly due to the games I play. I only play stuff like Wii Sports when friends are over. Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (lolwtfnohitstun; this is a joke of a fighting game, but is overall pretty nice), Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Madworld, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All Stars are just a few of the great games. One thing I will display about what I dislike is the third party crap. There's so much of these crappy third party games filling the markets. I wrote a whole thesis paper on this topic; trust me, I know what I am talking about. xDD

Also, hack your Wii. Am I seriously condoning piracy? On face level, no, but you can do that to be a pirate. I use the Homebrew Channel but seldom use emulators. I usually just play Brawl+ because I dislike regular Brawl gameplay.... just do yourself a favour and do not update since Nintendo hates homebrew.

Wii doesn't suck.....

Unfortunately for Sony and Microsoft, third party support is all they have :x

I got a Wii for X-mas. I am a hard core gamer and I LOVE it (although Wii Fit does suck). I have MKWii (Mario Kart Wii), and that's my favorite game. I do prefer Nintendo DS because it doesn't have the long lag between pressing the button and seeing the character react. Wii itself doesn't suck as much as some Wii games suck.

You wouldn't happen to be playing your Wii on a high def TV, would you?

I respect your opinion on the Wii, but maybe you're just playing the wrong games? Some of the games on the Wii are absolutely incredible in every respect, but at the same time there are heaps of games that are so unbelievably boring, repetitive, difficult... you name it. You just have to get other opinions and read reviews to see what's good.

Also, do you have access WiFi? If you do, you should check out the Wii Shop Channel. You can download some NES, SNES, N64, Sega Master System and Mega Drive, Neo Geo and Turbo Grafx games from there, as well as some interesting channels for the menu and some WiiWare titles, which are exclusive to the Wii Shop. You won't be disappointed with what you find! ;)

After weeks of having the thing, it isn't as bad as I thought. It just took getting used to. Sorry for my griping about it. I mostly use it now for the Wii Fit, and I am going to get the EA Sports Active next. It looks awesome from the commercials.

It's alright mate. I knew you'd come to like it. :)
Best of luck finding the games you like. ;)

I was really looking forward to the Wii when Nintendo first announced it, but it has been so disappointing! Most games that come out for it seem to be daft party games, or remakes of old games with added Wii controls. The online gaming aspect doesn't seem to be terribly well implemented either, I mean they released New Super Mario Wii with multiplayer and no wifi play...!?

New Super Mario Bros. Wii online sounds like a really, really bad idea 8O

My sister couldn't stand the wii at first when she rented it (mostly because the controllers we had were bad), but she kept on trying it out and now she bought me one that we share. I'm glad you like it more now :D
