I think the 5th generation of videogame consoles did the most for Pokemon, on the N64, you got pokemon stadium, pokemon puzzle and pokemon snap, I remember playing pokemon puzzle on the GBC, and it was awesome.

But when it comes down to it, the 1st and 2nd generations were the best ones, both on TV and the gameboy, the TV shows also had the best theme songs, the gameboy games had the best game songs as well;

My favorite generation; Generation 1, it has the most nostalgia as well as music.

Now for a comment a fan posted;

NOSTALGIAGASM. Generations I + II forever. <3

The first generation was amazing because it was the first implementation of an awesome idea and it provided the framework for every generation since. My favorite, though, is generation II. It improved on a LOT of the mechanics in RBY (changed critical hits to be unaffected by speed, split Special into Attack and Defense, balanced out the Psychic type, corrected the Psychic being unaffected by Ghost programming error) and added a lot of new things that have become a huge part of the series (shiny Pokémon, held items, a legendary-centered plot (in Crystal), the Battle Tower, weather effects, Pokémon breeding, etc.).

Generation I is just too glitchy; it was sloppily done compared to later generations.

Yes, the first games are very glitchy, nothing compared to the later games.

I think our generation were the luckiest, kids today play the s***** 4th generation games, in the Sinnoh region, it's NOTHING compared to the games we grew up with 8)

Pokemon is about to go extremely downhill, but I think the next games will push it up.

I've fired up the N64 transfer pak and I enjoy playing through the old pokemon games.

They screwed it up in the 3rd generation, pokemon COLISEUM?

Why couldn't they just make a Pokemon Stadium 3?

I hope this will return with the Wii.

I think Kanto has the most nostalgic music, but the Johto music is cooler.

Does this look glitchy to you?

One of the good things of GSC was being able to get 16 badges and story is probably one of my favirout, I don't know if I will be looking forward to any of Oak's poems though in HeartGold/SoulSilver.
Also like to chuck in if anyone has ever had their pokemon contract the pokerus, I had it in crystal I think and it is quite rare, got quite freaked out when I found my pokemon had it and was worried my pokemon was going to die. Actualy is beneficial, though I had no idea at the time.

Of course, I was thinking Missigno. when i thought of glitchiness, PKMN R/B(/Y?) style.

Do you know what SUCKS?

To avoid catching a shiny pokemon, it's not nice to let one of these go.

I play the 4th gen too... I play every generation but the first now. I thought like you did, but then I actually played the third and fourth gens. They kick just as much ass as the others.

They couldn't make Pokémon Stadium 3 because a different developer made Pokémon Colosseum, and calling it Pokémon Stadium 3 and making it a sequel would be massive copyright violation.

That's one of the reasons I want to learn how to manipulate the game's random number generator. Once you do that, you can determine EXACTLY when you'll encounter a shiny Pokémon (and what its IV's will be, so you can actually battle with it).

Look how badass shiny Charizard looks.

Not too bad, i encountered a shiny persian once, but I was so afraid to lose it that I "ACCIDENTALY" pressed the escape button.

*Facepalm*.

Well, I don't think generation III and IV is anywhere near as good as the generation I and II games are, but that's just my opinion.

I sort of started with Generation 1, playing Leaf Green on GBA, then moving onto Ruby, then Pearl, then Platinum. But I'm really looking forward to HG/SS for the myriad of tweaks and additions they flavor the games with to make them just so darn great.

Oh, and in case pat2rome is wondering, I decided to train defense and HP on my Clefable. Have to be alive to use Softboiled.

I remember running into my first random shiny. It didn't happen until Diamond. That shiny little Budew nearly gave me a heart attack because I wasn't really paying attention to what I was battling while leveling up my Pokemon.

Then I ran into a shiny Bidoof.

Recently I caught a shiny Kricketune.

I'm pretty sure that Diamond game is lucky.

Gen IV gets a lot of dislike from people, but I like it. Especially Platinum and the remakes HeartGold and SoulSilver.
I can't immediately think of any point where the original Gold and Silver are superior to the remakes.

My favourite addition in Platinum is the possibility to fight important trainers such as gym leaders repeatedly.
