^ Cool, an Australian civ mod. I've seen a couple of them, but I don't normally use mods. There are a couple of NZ ones too, but they're kinda underwhelming. At least Civ 5 has the Polynesia civ in it. That's nice.

Countless hours on civ II, 541 hours on civ V. Played civ IV for a while, but it started crashing when I upgraded to Win 7.

I know Civ V is old now but I'm tempted to try This!
Guess what, mate?
Civ 6 has released details of its next civ ... and it's Australia!
Basic information: Leader: John Curtin (Prime Minister during WW2) Colours: Green and gold (obviously) Theme song: looks like Waltzing Matilda (again, obvious choice) Unique improvement: Outback station Unique unit: Digger
I think it's going to be released as part of the wider Summer 2017 update to the game (which probably means winter 2017 down here). Cannot wait!! !

Okay ... so, they actually decided to release it yesterday. (I guess when they called it the "Australian Summer Update" they meant "when it's summer in Australia". ) It cost $5 as DLC, or it downloads automatically if you have digital deluxe version of the game. It includes some updates to the overall game (including modding tools), plus the new Australia civ and a new Australian scenario.
So yeah, I've been playing as Australia since yesterday. I wish they had stuck to green and gold for Australia's colours but they've gone with sunburnt orange and white, with a kangaroo as their emblem. At least they kept Waltzing Matilda as Australia's theme song. I'll admit to feeling proud when it started playing. I think civs have some alternate music during the Ancient Era, because there was also another version of Waltzing Matilda, along with a rendition of Click Go the Shears (remember that song? ) and some nice Aboriginal music.
Haven't finished my game with Oz yet, since my relatives have been over this weekend, but some of Australia's bonuses look pretty cool. Pastures give a culture bomb similar to Poland's, and an Outback Station gives them additional food and production. Coastal cities also get +3 housing, plus some districts get additional yields when built on tiles with charming (+2) or breathtaking (+4) appeal ("Land Down Under" ... personally I would've called this trait "The Lucky Country"). And there's a +100% production boost for 10 turns when someone declares war on you, or for 20 turns if you liberate a city ("Citadel of Civilisation" ... something to do with WW2, I think). There's also the Digger as a unique unit, which replaces the Infantry and has additional strength when fighting on coasts, neutral soil or foreign soil.
Overall, I really enjoy playing as Australia. Especially with the added yields to campuses – I might start using it as one of my science-focused civs. Heck, I'll probably use it as my default civ.
