I saw a few rounds live. The commentary by Svidler was excellent, as usual.
Do you play competitively?

Nah. I play very rarely. I do want to learn to play better, I believe I could become decent at it. But I make so many stupid mistakes.

I do find it interesting to see what I would do in the same situation as on the board. But if I choose the "correct" move, it's usually just luck.

I can think of two sites to test/teach tactics: Emrald speed test and Chess Tempo.

Feel free to send me a private message if you decide to try to improve at chess. I can give you some suggestions.

Indeed! These are great.
Emrald is extremely intense and from memory you have approximately 3-5 seconds to give your solution, after the diagram loads, if you wish to gain points for solving it.
I used chesstempo often (a few years ago) and it was extremely useful as a training tool.

Good suggestions!

From chesstempo I learned that "skewer" and "x-ray" are not synonomous. With WPe4 WQd5 WRb1 BQc6 BPb7, Rxb7 is an x-ray in that the Pb7 appeared to be "adequately" defended. You know the skewer already: for example, after a queen check, a piece behind it is unguarded and will be taken after the king moves out of the way.

Back to the long abandoned correspondence game that started this thread: Black has the much better position. 28. f3? to hold the Pe4 drops a piece or a king to Rb2+; Ke1 drops the Nb1 since the Rh1 can't take back and Kd3 gives Black a choice of mates.

28. Rc1 Qd6+ 29. Ke2 Rxe4 30. Nd2 Rxc1 31. Nxe4?? Qa6+ & Rxh1
31. Rxc1 and White has a difficult game but is still in it. Here is the PGN of it.

Nice to meet another chess player. :)

I don't think that game is going to continue. I agree that Black is winning. It was an interesting game.

I was over 2100 before my final slide. My last tournament was about 20 years ago but I still play online blitz.
