Wouldn't suprise me if they release a new GTA: Vice City if GTA V i successful. Hope they put more features into it, though. Killing random strangers and destroying cars in a free-roaming city isn't as fun in 2013 as it was in 2003.

Even in 2003, it wasn't as fun as it was in 1997.

But I was an angsty teen back then, it was tailor made for angst.

The first GTA game brings back fond memories as well. But those memories would be ruined if I installed the game again. :D

I think it's still a pretty decent game, though the framerate isn't the smoothest, and it's really difficult when you try to play the game seriously, instead of just using cheat codes and causing mass destruction @_@

...and the graphics aren't as pretty as GTA 2 =P And the radio stations aren't as good.

...but other than that!

I actually almost beat the first stage (Liberty City) not too long ago, but the game crashed right before I did =| Talk about a major bummer.

I would say that the two Zero Escape games are under-rated - ' 999 : 9 hours 9 persons, 9 doors' , and 'Virtue's Last Reward'

Also, 'Earthbound' (although Nintendo engineered that on purpose, by making it impossible to buy the game in most of the world)

Japanese games in the west.

I believe people who claim of the decline of the Japanese game industry is perpetrated by people don't know how to have fun , I don't (I am aspie after all) and I can have fun what does that tell you?

Sure the Japs had their off moments but for to long since around the ps1 era onwards western developers have been getting more credit than they deserve, time for Japan to reign supreme!

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Halo Reach, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Killer7.

I haven't played Deadly Premonition myself, but I just finished watching through Two Best Friend's playthrough of it, and it seems to have been pretty decent to me. Very technically bad, and it does look like a lot of the stuff as far as the gameplay goes would be annoying, but it looks like it could still be an enjoyable game. I'd like something where you're put in more of a countryside sandbox with a small town or settlements(hell, something like the countryside in GTA: San Andreas, even), and with more realistic stuff like having to buy gas, eat and sleep and stuff. If not for the mediocre horror stuff, I think it would be fun to just go around investigating stuff and seeing what all the townsfolk do. It's almost like a more expanded version of Majora's Mask what with all the characters having their own schedules. Of course, it would need far better production value. Even though a lot of the story stuff seemed a bit campy, I generally enjoyed it.

People mentioning old FPS games like Strife reminded me of one very unqiue game that probably deserves mention here: Postal 2

You play this regular redneck character living in a trailer house in some backwater US town. The game lasts for one week (7 days), and each day your annoying wife gives you a shopping/chores list that you have to go out into the town and do (your "missions" to complete in order to progress through the game). You can choose how to do each task, using as much or little violence and mayhem as possible.

Example: One task is to get some milk from the convenience store. There's a lineup of at least a dozen people. You can choose to wait for the line to actually finish and get your milk normally, which takes at least probably 30 minutes. You can also choose to kill everyone in line, grab the milk, and blow the store up. You can also use various other techniques that sort of fall between the two extremes. In some of the later days' events, crazy stuff starts happening even without you starting it, like criminals trying to kidnap Gary Coleman at the mall while you're trying to get his autograph as one of your chores, or criminals even kidnapping you at one point after you get too drunk and pass out.

One really hilarious part of the game is that there's bsically just regular people walking around that react to whatever you're doing, sort of like GTA but better. If you're acting normal then they'll just go about their regular day. But start causing mayhem and destruction and watch them all go bonkers.

Dark and gritty reboots of games aren't a new phenomenon. In 2001, an attempt to reboot the Alone in the Dark franchise was made. The story was moved from the 1920's/1930's to 2001, Edward Carnby was turned into a big guy with long black hair and a badass longcoat -- and the game borrowed heavily from the first game, going back to the H. P. Lovecraft inspired setting. The game really only had two flaws. These flaws, however, were significant. The first flaw was the voice-acting of the female lead character, Aline Cedrac. The second (and most significant flaw), was the awful save game system, which only allowed you to save for a very limited number of times.

Nevertheless, the game had impressive graphics for it's time, a decent plot and a great atmosphere. The animations were incredibly life-like back in the days and the overall artistic quality was very high. While it's not among the greatest games every made, it still never got the recognition it deserved.

The MegaTen franchise is kind of underrated over here in the US.
