I don't doubt that , it's what attracted me to the franchise , the lack of depth , repetition and lack of challenge which killed it for me .

Yeah, same here.

It looked pretty cool, and the combat mechanics are fun, as is running and leaping around, but.... the game was so freaking easy that it just couldnt hold my attention at all, despite the variety of cool stuff in it.

Same with Mirrors Edge ....

It really annoys me these type of games that could be great with some tweaks , a missed opportunity !

Final Fantasy 7. I donlt like how you can still be hit just from taking time to come up with a stratrgy.

It's the same with most of the series. "Active Time Battle" is what they call it, it's been that way since FF 4.

Believe me, it doesnt matter much though. One of the reasons I dislike the series so much is that the "strategy" is extremely shallow. You dont actually need most spells/abilities, and most enemies are very easy, so some simple "attack" spamming can defeat most things, so long as you heal when necessary. There's not much thinking involved, since as is usual for the series, the difficulty is very low. There's the occaisional exception, but for the most part that's how the whole thing goes. So you're not really missing much.

I tried Lost Odessay , from the maker of FF , felt shallow to which is a shame as it looked good on paper , the dream recollections where awesome though .

Shame JRPG' S of late have really been stuck in a rut with the odd exceptions , really enjoyed Resonance of Fate recently . :D

All MMOs. I remember when my brother first told me that World of Warcraft was coming out, and I wasn't the least bit excited to be playing around strangers all the time. Years later, I'm still not excited.

I guess I don't see the appeal of social gaming beyond adding a more realistic element of unpredictability or bringing your friends along. The social scene is constantly changing, so if you put it down for a week just to take a break you may find yourself needing a different group to play with because of all the progress they've made in that time. People crowd around and get in each other's way. There's harassment and annoyances. I played WoW for 2 months and found people to be friendly enough when I was around them, but it just wasn't worth trying to stay updated with my guild.

Both my favorite series (Warcraft and Final Fantasy) took the online route, so I've had to find new stuff...

I know I could technically play alone, but the designs have fundamentally changed. Grinding isn't the same as RTS.

Call of Duty, and all of the other modern "iron sights" shooters that copied it. Snore. Black Ops 1 was the only CoD I ever really enjoyed, mainly because it did a good job of capturing the feel of 80s action movies.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is also massively overrated. It's not a bad game per se, but there are other games in the series that are better, and it has a number of flaws that keep it from being the 10/10 experience everyone makes it out to be. The overworld is small and boring, and the camera controls SUCK.

Team Fortress 2 is another game I find to be highly overrated. Its original concept was nice, but when Valve screwed it up by adding all sorts of microtransaction items and such, it really jumped the shark. Ironically, now that I'm thinking about it, I actually kind of want to play again, but if it goes anything like the last few times I tried getting back into it, I'll wait a long time for it to download, then I'll try to join a server, and it won't work, then I'll try to join another server, until I find one that works, in which case I'll play for 30 minutes and ragequit out of frustration. I've been down this road a few times, what TF2 really needs is a reboot.

I don't get all of the hype for Destiny. From what I can gather, it looks like the love child of Halo and an MMORPG, both things I'm not very big on. It seems to be quite popular among the "bro gamers" right now, but I bet it's going to be like Titanfall where everyone was excited about it at first, then forgot about it after the first month. For me, hype destroys interest, unless it's a new first-party Nintendo release.

Is this really about over rated games, or just games people don't like?

I think all Halo, COD, GTA, and similar, like Saints Row are over rated, but those are also games that I don't like. Also, never liked MMOs and think they are over rated because it seems like devs these days can come up with anything and give it an unoriginal storyline. Steam is flooded with un-originality in the MMO department as of late.

I think Minecraft is overrated extremely. It gets boring after an hour or two.

I don't think it matters if it's games people don't like I'm not a great fan of Halo , though can see it appeal , though by no means is this game a 9/10/10 I'd say 7-7.5 /10

The others except for GTA I can't stand , SR is puerile rubbish , shame as it looked OK on paper .

Agreed with pretty much all of this. Though I dont know what "iron sights" means.

As for Destiny, from what I hear, it's already headed that way. Surprise surprise, the devs seem to have spent LOTS of time on everything that WASNT gameplay and actual content, and apparently alot of players are already hitting the "nothing left to do" point. So the game ends up being really just another Halo multiplayer clone, as the PvP ends up being the only thing to do. Titanfall at least, the devs knew full damn well what it was going to be, and they didnt try to push it as anything else (it has no real story, and no single-player modes whatsoever and is ENTIRELY about competition, and they never pretend otherwise), but Destiny seemed hyped to be all the things that it really just wasnt. If everyone was just going to end up doing the PvP stuff endlessly, they shoulda just focused on that alone. Doing a proper MMO typically requires absolutely silly amounts of content right from the start, or you cant hold attention even close to long enough to keep players from stopping.

I've always hated campaign mode in fps games like cod and bf. The gameplay and ai is abysmal.

Ugh, THAT sort of thing.

Yeah, I never liked that. I mean, you get used to it to a degree, but.... I miss the days of Doom (but then I always say that) where you just pointed your view and fired. Didnt have to slow down to do the sights thing and THEN fire.

For that kind of control system, I like to aim down the sights for the first shot, and then release the aim button to fire from the hip, reposition, retarget, or run away. It doesn't always work but it sure is fun.
