The name pretty much says it all really.
Who would you say are the coolest characters in gaming, they can be protaganists, antagonists, player characters, non-playable characters etc.
Mine would be:
Solid Snake: come on he's just so damn cool, the bandana, the hair, the attitude, the CQC moves, old or young Snake is more or less the game equivalent of Clint Eastwood, when he's young he's cool and confident, when he's old, he's cynical, grumpy but every bit as effective in combet as he was when he was young.
Cyborg Ninja: an insane man with a prototype exoskeleton complete with katana sword and loss of his own consciousness? Count me in!
Raiden: In his ninja form, he owns and makes for some really awesome fight scenes, in MGS2 he's a rather "mediocre" character, though I don't hate him.
Sam Fisher: I'm neutral on the Splinter Cell vs. MGS debate, Sam is morally amiguous considering he commits crazy acts of violence in various points, but he also sympathises people who have been senselessly killed, he's a byronic hero, he's flawed, but is effective depending on the skill of the player of course.
Riddick: OK he was never originally a game character but the games he did star in were so damn awesome, Riddick is probably my favourite character played by Vin Diesal, he is the ultimate anti-hero and playing as him is fun, sneaking up on guards and slitting their throats, breaking out of Butcher Bay, destroying giant mechs, everything we have come to expect from Riddick is in Escape From Butcher Bay and it's remake, many movie tie-ins have been disappointments, but the Riddick games delivered well.
Niko Bellic: Well out of all of the characters in the GTA series, this man has a more realistic personality, though he's a nice, caring guy, he's also got his demons, he regrets all of the things he done in the Serbian War, he's a badass killer also, but every choice the player makes in the game has a cost, Niko's soul, though GTA IV still boasts the satiric humour it has been known for, the story is also very serious, the dialogue is funny when it's needed, but the serious parts of the game really hit hard, the choices you are forced to make add something for the player as well, choose to kill a guy or spare him? It's a tougher choice than it sounds when you get sucked into the plot and start caring about Niko and that's what GTA IV has accomplished, making your care for Niko.
Darth Sion: A walking corpse who thrives on pain? Badass!
Tommy Vercetti: he's a badass, 'nuff said.
Torque: a survival horror normally puts you in awkward positions purposely, you're surrounded by supernatural beings, you have a limited amount of ammo, you have no way out, the only option is to shoot and make those shots count, though when playing as Torque, you're given a sense of power equal to the demons you're fighting, Torque doesn't say anything at all in the first game, in the second he speaks, but not often, unlike other survival horror characters, Torque is a badass who can blast his way through waves of demons, he can transform into a giant beast and cut his way through them as well! He's by far my personal favourite horror game character, mainly because his abilities in the game match (if not ascend above) the powers of the demons he's forced to fight.
Vamp: I've always found the best villains in a fictional story of any kind are the ones you despise, and with Vamp this is true, I can't stand the sight of him, his abilities are badass, he's immortal, he's really good with knives, he can run up walls, he can run on water, you'd think he's undefeatable but Snake finds a way to weaken him and Raiden deals the killing blow (I'm not spoiling much else for the people who haven't played MGS4 yet) although his personality is easy to despise he's still a cool character nonetheless.
Psycho Mantis: His powers are absolutely incredible, his backstory is interesting, he's a great villain.
Revolver Ocolot: Do I really need to explain?
Liquid Snake: Like Vamp I hate his guts, but he's still a badass and a perfect rival for Snake.
OK naming any more would be beyond ridiculous.
