ill start this off by listing some of my favorites

1) the "Tales of" series

These games are truly underated thanks to Namco bandai's in-ability to advertise these games they are great stories and truly great battle system

2) The Grandia games

this would of taken my top spot if Grandia 3 diddnt kill the series but Grandia 1 and 2 both great games with great music, story, characters and a kick ass turn based system that makes turn based games fun

3)Xenogears/Xenosaga

i have only played a bit of xenogears to be honest i really gotta get it again and finish it off but i have played Xenosaga 3 and that was a great game even for someone like me who hasent playe dthe 1st and 2nd game

4) Star Ocean

ok im gonna be honest here but all the star ocean games with the exception of Star ocean 2 and 3 (yes i liked SO3) have really crappy stories but the battle system is great fun just make sure you mute those annoying voices in Star ocean the last hope

5) Final Fantasy

ok the reason i put this on number 5 was cause lately the FF series havent made a good game since FF10.FF10-2 had a some what interesting story but FF12 was really really boring for me and the main character did hardly anything (imho Lost Odyssey is what FF12 should of been)

I've only played some scattered jrpgs so I'm not able to have a full view, anyway I've loved Tales of Vesperia, Magna Carta 2 and, slightly under this 2, Eternal Sonata. Oh, and Valkyria Chronichles.

I feel like my life doesn't have enough jrpg game time in it.

But I do own FF12 and I haven't... er... finished it yet. I should get to it.

Either Dragon Warrior/Quest or Earthbound/Mother.

It's a really tough call to make, though I've beaten all three Earthbound games, and only the first three DW games. Still slowly working through IV (in fact, I just might have to play it today).

The Final Fantasies of course, and the Star Ocean's (Loved til the end of time the most)

My avatar pretty much gives it away - Lunar! :D

With the exception of Dragon Song (which most fans really don't acknowledge in the first place), the storylines are awesome, the characters are so deep and well-detailed, and although the gameplay is a bit old-fashioned (even on the upcoming remake of The Silver Star/Silver Star Story), it's still a lot of fun.

Inuyasha

I like it because I watch the anime so the story interests me. I like the atmosphere of the game and the gameplay is not bad.

I also dig the Final Fantasy series, but I completely agree there hasn't really been a good one since X-2, and that Lost Odyssey is what XII should have been. I truly believe XIII will change that for me though. :] When I was in Middle School pretty much all I would do was sit down in my basement and play Final Fantasy, because I only had one friend, and he was also just obsessed with Final Fantasy, lol.
