Will Wright= 8)
I am not worthy! I am not worthy! I am not worthy!
For those who do not know, Will Wright created Sim City and the Sims

This game has everything any gamer could ask for.
First person shooter- Cellular level, animal level.
RPG- Animal Level
Design- All levels
Civilization- Tribe level+
RTS- City level+
Sci Fi- Space level
Galactic Civ- Interestellar level
and quite possibly so much more.

This is the first time I wanted to donate to a multi million dollar proffit organization,
just to get that GAME IN MY HANDS'!

I'm very much looking forward to this just for the editors and what not, but I do think that, like The Sims before it, the actual core gameplay will get repetitive and quite tiresome after a while.

Still, to me it looks a lot more interesting than 90% of the other games currently in development.

Just watching the google video. Quite a fascinating concept for a game. It looks like at last someone has done a decent genetic/evolutionary/open ended game that has been tried in some predecessors (some of the old sim series come to mind) but im also thinking of the one 2-3 years ago strange creatures or whatever it was called.

What I hope is that Maxis have learned to open up there games to modification. A PC game's lifetime is extended immensly by how open it is to user modification and additions. They clearly have listened to their audience feedback as they mention the lot editor from sim city 4, i hope they also took into accounting the problems they had with Sim City 4 and the sims 2 but by the sounds of it they have made this game quite open to input from players anyway like the sims 2 is.

I can see this is the penultimate Populus style game, I wonder if any of the former members of Bullfrog had something to do with this, its very similair to their "god game" concepts.

Its a shame Electronic Arts are supporting this so its bound to be buggy, incomplete and they'l charge you for the privelage of an expansion that fixes the bugs

Ive been thinking about this game all day. It is absolutely awesome potential. What I want to know about more is the galactic level (when your dealing with star systems/galaxies. What really do you do at that point? are you building a space empire/civilisation? So do you build fleets, starbases mine asteroids etc? It looked like that part of the game hadn't been built up properly yet from the video.

I'd hate to get to that stage and simply have the horrid problem of dealing with micromanagement of loads of differnt worlds. Also the impression i got was that the planets, maybe its just the demo so they only wanted a small world, were too small for me. I like big playing area's like Operation flashpoint's islands 8)

Also can people clarify this for me. When he's talking about the game connecting to other players/database ive got a few quiries here that dont seem to be answered in previews or the video

1) Do you need an internet connection to play this game, full stop.
2) Are you able to create a game were you have no input from other players at all and it is simply down to you to create each individual race/species to inhabit the universe (very very awesome potential there, yes I would do it! I have a healthy imagination)
3) Does the game simply download other players created specieis to inhabit your universe/world or is this an Massive online multiplayer?
4) Anyone know anything more about the galactic level of play

From my understanding:

1) From what I saw on the video (and another later), I think you would need an active connection, but I think a Dial Up one would easily suffice.

2) I'm not sure on that one, I think that they would be wise to implement such a feature.

3) It's not a Multiplayer experience. How I think it works is this, when you (or anyone else) create something, creature/building/etc the game uploads that data to the Database. And the game actively searches the Database to populate your universe and to find similar styles for the "Buy Mode".

4) In another video Will Wright went on to explain that he wanted to use the first 'goal oriented' levels as a sort of tutorial, teaching the player who to use the editors and the game management. So when you get to the Galactic Level you're pretty much free to do as you please. I think...

It would be neet if you can remain at one level.
For example, Galileo ace may have space tech, but if my cell (virus) is really powerful than nothing will matter

I have never been addicted to a game before playing it :!:

Total Annihilation even with all its bugs was my favorite RTS game.
What happened to bullfrog?
They were supposed to make TA 2 6 years ago.

Now comes a new challenge for game designers:
How to make a game that let's the user micro manage yet still keep track of a large battle scene.

Starcraft is far too engrosing, you cannot leave your computer. (I haven't played Warcraft III)
Civilization is not engrosing enough.

Both games work.
Except both togethor will be Godlike.

Spore and Supreme Commander look like true dieties.
I am guessing there are more coming out.
May the best RTS win!

Another rather good strategy title worthy of curiosity is Supreme Ruler 2010

I loved TA back in the day, it is a pretty classy game, shame it really wasn't balanced properly at all. Especially when they created that boneyard galactic war online game. The Arm always had the advantage over the core with their units rapid rate of fire, was kinda ridiculous playing as the core.
