I keep reading in magazines and sites that the Wii controls are so fun, original, a breakthrough in videogaming.

I think the Wii controls su**s big time. They only succeed in making manouvering in games very hard.
It makes sense to use a wheel in racing games and light pistol in shoot them up games and the Wii control for some sports games, but why did they have to destroy all the other games by not releasing a normal game controller in addition.
Not every one thinks it’s a riot to wave wildly; no-one in my family can stand these controls. We can’t be the only ones?

Now I avoid getting games for Wii when I can, and haven’t even gotten the Rune factory Frontier despite loving the DS versions because I fear the controls will destroy the fun, the same for Harvest Moon and Mario Party.

I feel the same about the DS to some extent. In some games one can choose, and in some it makes sense to use the stylus, but in some, like Bomberman Land and HM Island of happiness it’s just an annoyance.

The only Nintendo controller I've ever liked is the GameCube control pad. The NES/SNES controllers were made for hobbits, the N64 controller was bulky and awkward and the GameCube controller handles like a dream -- it's probably my all-time-favourite game pad.

From what I've seen of the Nintendo Wii, I don't like it very much. A lot of people have bought it as a novelty item (they even have one in my local pub), but I doubt many of these people are serious gamers. In a few years, you'll be able to buy a Wii on eBay for about £9.99.

The only Wii game I've played where I didn't like the controls was Twilight Princess, I ended up getting the GameCube version instead.

Everything else I've played seems to use them pretty well, or at least lets you use a different controller.

I kind of like the whole nunchuck/Wiimote combination because the cord between them allows you to rest your hands in really lazy positions @_@

I love the wheel in Mario Kart, but in Zelda I realized the motion I do to swordfight is basically the stereotype gay wrist motion. :P

I don't like the idea of a driving game where the steering wheel is not connected... Other controllers may be a better idea. Otherwise it's just for entertainment and not a serious competitor like the PlayStation and the XBox

The new controllers make me crazy angry. I miss the old controllers.

At first, before the Wii came out, I imagined this sort of karate kata like movement. Like Neo from the Matrix, Jackie Chan, or that guy doing gun katas in Equilibrium. But no. I realized that it wouldn't really be like this but one can only dream. Instead I think I looked more like a rabid wombat flailing at invisible enemies, baring my teeth whenever the pointer wouldn't go where I wanted, with my magical hunks of plastic spewing infrared beams in all directions.

I would rather they went back to the standard controllers with an option to turn on a mouse pointer controlled by the controller itself. The mouse pointer is a good idea.

I love the Wii's controls in games where developers use them as an aesthetic device, an extension of the controller, as a sort of wall breaking technique. That's what really excited me about the Wii, since I can play games and get quite mentally involved in them. Now when I play No More Heroes or Madword, it doesn't matter that I don't need to swing the remote like a sword or bat (wrist flipping does just fine) but the game becomes that much more of an enjoyable fragfest when I put my body into it.

So Konami, let's get a good Castlevania game out, all right? Because Dracula needs an authentic whipping.

But for games where the control isn't necessary, I totally feel burned.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

And I've said it many times but I'll say it again - the games out for Wii (for the most part) don't take advantage of the new control scheme/way of playing as much as they could. They tend to be modified GC titles with, as someone said, "stereotype gay wrist-flicks" to fight. Some even make you turn the controller sideways and just use it like a regular (flat) controller!

But I loved Trauma Center and Wario Ware - they utilized the unique capabilities of the system well, in my opinion. (:

They are not a problem, unless one is a hyperactive kid, which are the anti-aspie I think, and for games, I recommend SUper Paper Mario, it's easy because you hold the remote like a N64, Gamecube controller, also check out SUper Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl, I play Brawl with my friends often, it's very fun in multiplayer :D

All you guys who hate the Wiimote need to check out Ultimate Alliance.

You feel like a REAL superhero waving that wiimote around to activate all your moves!

If your TV is an HDTV, my friend was having the same problem. You have to set the TV to "gaming mode"...unless, like my friend, your TV doesn't have that option =/ In which case, you'd better have an analogue TV around if you want to enjoy any rhythm games.

I'm a hyperactive aspie. :)

Anyway, I think that you people are calling this too soon. With third-party support shifting to Wii and the introduction of Wii MotionPlus coinciding so nicely, we'll likely see some really cool stuff soon.

The Wii is the worst console I've ever had the luxury of playing. That's all I'm going to say.

Really? Personally, I found the ColecoVision to be really bad...
You should try out the CD-I. That should put things into perspective.

I'm not a fan of the Wii controls either. Not accurate enough to be relevant and can't do anything a standard controller can't do better.
