I am trying to find an old game that was released last decade for Windows PCs. It was a top down perspective shooter in which you entered your computer in a spaceship after a virus infects it. Inside you play as a defender of your computer, and levels were procedurally generated from the folders of your PC filesystem.
The objective of each level was to take each of the files within each folder, all the while taking down viruses. The files were actual files existing on your hard drive. There were also multiple fighters from other clans that also tried to do the same thing while you were playing, and depending on how you acted with them they (the character) and the faction that character was a part of would become friendly or hostile. If you were attacked by a hostile while somebody you'd befriended was around, they'd come to your aid.
You could upgrade weapons and other ship systems by summoning a sphere that also served as an ambulance when you were badly damaged.
There were also levels where you raced against other characters, and levels where you duelled with characters that were hostile to you.
There was a police faction called the Enforcers (I think) that were well armed and patrolled levels and arrested anyone, including the player who was breaking the law, such as destroying system files and attacking characters that were fleeing.
There was also a pirate faction called the Renegades that went around deliberately destroying system files, and you could get on the good side of the law by helping the police faction take them down. Or you could side with the pirates and evade the police, except the pirates weren't very dependable allies.
If anyone can remember this game please tell me, it was one of my favourite games back then and I was looking to get it again.
