Do you feel that you're pressured to like games that you don't care about?

Every gamer I've met loves shooters. I don't, and they all look down on me for it. The only shooter that I found to be good was the first Half-Life for the PC, and it's not even one of my favorite games. Halo has a fun multiplayer mode, but that's the only thing I like about it. I've played Gears of War for 15 minutes and was not impressed with it at all.

Another game I felt pressured to like but didn't was God of War. I don't know why I dislike it, I just do. In my opinion, the best part of the game was the Hydra fight. An hour and a half later, I just could not continue playing it.

I know a lot of you probably disagree with my opinions, but I really needed to let out some steam. If there are any games or game genres you don't like even though everyone else tries to force you to like them, post them here.

There are some sacred cows that you will earn you funny looks from other gamers when you proclaim that you dislike them. I for example, couldn't be bothered to persevere with Ocarina of Time.

*Is booed, shot at, kicked and beaten with shoes*

And I've never played Final Fantasy VII...

*Has a thousand Playstations thrown at him and is then cleaved in twain with a replica of Cloud's sword*

I don't like multiplayer games, especially MMOs. I have never played World of WarCraft. A lot of people are surprised of that.

@ Postperson: what's RSI ?

This is the case with Fallout 3. Everyone speaks great about it, there are already 3 or 4 expansions, I tried 2 times to get involved but the low pace and the amount of exploration with lack of immediate action have turned me down, maybe I'll give it another try, it feels like there's a lot to enjoy but I don't have enough patience, especially knowing how many great other games there are to play out there.

Edit: the same applies to Oblivion.

I tend to focus more on single player games as well. I also think that some games are getting ridiculous with co-op game play, especially in the ones where you can only obtain curtain items with help from a friend. I don't like MMOs either, and I probably will never play WOW, because I refuse to pay monthly fees for ANY game and the game itself looks like it would get boring after a week.

I've played computer games since I was young, and I don't have a lot of problem with shooter games. However, I always get annoyed if the games don't have a plot, have little of a plot, or have a really bad plot. The only exception is if the gameplay is very, very good, and that doesn't happen a lot anymore.

I picked up World of Warcraft willingly at first because it looked interesting and I'd never played an MMORPG. It got really, really boring. I played more, but it eventually felt like more of an obligation than anything, so I quit.

I'll occasionally play multiplayer, but I just like single player games so much better. The only MMO I play is Guild Wars, and that's because the explorable areas/missions can be done single player.

RSI is repetitive strain injury.

There are few games that are really popular that I dislike. Before making a judgement I try to play a fair portion of a game.

Fallout 3 for example, I didn't like at first but after several attempts at playing it started to click with me. That said, I don't like any of the DLC. Bioshock, on the other hand I tried to play, again and again and again until finally I -gasp- actually finished the game. But even after playing through all of it, I still didn't find it enjoyable. Interesting narrative, but the gameplay just never felt satisfying.

There are certain games which people think must be played to truly grasp a genre of a particular gaming system.

Total Annihilation is fun >.>

Halo.

Sometimes I'll grudgingly play if friends provoke me enough, but only if they'll let me do whatever I want...which usually involves me doing donuts in the Warthog with the horn at full blast, or seeing how far into the negatives I can get my frags ;)

Like Wasteland and the first two Fallout games ;)

I don't, I only play the games I like and I really don't care what other like unless they happen to have the same interests as me. I don't like shooters either and I've found most of them to be rather boring. The only game I really liked that involved gun usage was Grand Theft Auto IV and that game isn't even a real shooter since there's so much more to it.

Meh, i don't exactly like shooters, like most people here, i do like only a small portion of them such as when they are being integrated as mini games in other games. =P (Such as Spyro) Or when they have a rather all around story that defeats the purpose of just shooting stuff till it dies (Such as Oddworld : Stranger's Wrath).

Halo 3 (good, but not great) and FF7 (average).

Well, I sometimes play Second Life, and I'm into The Sims2 right now. But my all-time favorites are Tetris and Snood. :P The only game I ever enjoyed that involved shooting was Nanosaur. So there.

I've decided to revive this topic. I feel that posting games you find overrated is a great way of venting. Plus I'm curious of other's opinions on overrated games. Thank you all for your replies.
