I was just over at THE VAULT hoping to get some info on New Vegas when I stumbled upon this... *click*

Personally, I hope the issue never gets settled. Fallout is a single player game and needs to stay that way!

I've been a Fallout fan since the FIRST bombs dropped and I would never play Fallout Online! How about you?

I don't see how Fallout Online can work, because 99% of online players are complete douchebags who can't spell, have horrible grammar, and don't give a s**t about immersion or universe continuity.

The only way it can work is when someone finally has the guts to move to MMO model 2.0 (that I invented). This model would involve constant and active participation by game masters overseeing the world and enforcing the rules - and sometimes bending them. Making it closer to a traditional D&D session, with real human intelligence maintaining immersion.

Another rule - people who act like jackasses get instabanned. If a game master sees someone go "LOL" or "^_^" or "f*k u", or anything equally ret*d, they just ban them. No warnings, no 3 strikes, nothing.

But nobody will make such a MMO.

Just drop a couple of mines while backing up and voila' - another claw in your inventory.

It could work, but it would need to move away from a lot of the MMO cliches. If it was set in a very large and truly dynamic world it could be amazing; if it stuck to the same old MMO same old it'd be dire. See Fallen Earth.

For a moment there, I was afraid... I hate the idea of single player games, especially ones with RPG elements, being taken into online play. The whole concept sucks. It would probably end up like the others.. Full of max-level, max-geared, grindhouse morons camping the areas where the new players are starting out. I'm overwhelmed with the problems that this game will potentially encounter should it ever be released. So much so, that I must stop typing and leave this thread.

It was just nice to see that the OP hates the idea also. I came in prepared to flame the idea, but felt relief instead ;o

This lone, nomadic sniper of the wasteland, doesn't like playing with others.

this is pretty fascist

I don't know many people who feel like playing "in character" all the time. Have RP characters play in RP servers and don't hate people just for being themselves and not wanting to RP but rather just play a game.

I saw the early concept art and screenshots and instantly thought "Wow, it actually does look like Fallout." so I'm glad about that.

But I don't play MMOs =/

I could make an argument that when it comes to an MMO, "playing the game" MEANS participating in a BELIEVEABLE WORLD... that is THE reason you're playing the MMO and not Left 4 Dead... it's not like you're doing it for grinding spiders... well, many of you do, and the thought of them does depress me.

But hey, I wouldn't mind isolating this to an RP server. The problem is that currently nobody enforces jack s**t on RP servers.

Nothing breaks a game faster than someone acting like a moron. I bet such people would be banned from real-life places like Renaissance Faires, and nobody calls those places "fascist". Also, when you show up to a party with a dress code in your underwear, you will be booted out. Real life precedent should be followed here.

"Kit Nazis." It's a real and frequently used expression, at least in UK LRP circles, for groups with strict dress codes. Re-enactors are Kit Nazis by default.

the only reason im remotely interested is because the lead programmer from the first Fallout, Chris Taylor is the lead designer of the game.

It's pretty easy to enforce those rules yourself. Start an RP guild/clan/vault(whatever it's called in this MMO). Then if you encounter someone who's not RPing just kick them and team with someone who does. It's really not that difficult and with that you can avoid having your immersion ruined and you can avoid ruining their immersion.

I used to play City of Heroes and I knew plenty of people who would role play their character no matter what. If they were with or not with RPers they didn't let that ruin their own experience of the game. I understand you love your view of how the game world should be but not everyone is going to agree.

It would be pretty hard to keep a guild sized as an entire SERVER.

Do you even understand the appeal of a MMO? What's the point of playing a MASSIVELY multiplayer game if you're just dealing with a number of people in lower double digits, all of whom you pre-selected and already know ?

Where's the IMMERSION in that?

To me, the appeal of a MMO lies in walking around the world and seeing people's characters interact with the world. I can choose to help them, interact with them at will. Make friends with them. Etc. It's a fantasy world, not a fantasy guild. Not a fantasy dungeon/raid. A WORLD.

Well if the MMO ever releases I'll let you know how many people can spell and how much RP there is. I'm definitely getting it, I may not RP every character but I'll most likely enjoy the game.

The Fallout universe is too incredible to let others ruin it for me. See you guys there.

Why not just play the single-player Fallouts then? They, too, have the "Fallout universe" and no "others" to ruin it for you. Most importantly, they actually have choice&consequence - something that has not been successfully implemented in any major MMO thus far.

I love it when people admit to buying MMO to pretty much play it solo or with a small group of people 90% of the time locked in claustrophobic dungeons hacking at some boss to get his shiny belt. It just boggles the mind.
