That was our closest game yet! Funny how the best anti-tank I've used so far has been the Warboss on a bike - he was a real badass this game! Gork 'n' Mork would be proud.

The MVM (most vaulable model) of the game would still have to be the Daemon Prince though, he single-handedly wrecked the Deff Dread in a single combat, dealt the killing blow to the Warboss and mowed down the ork boyz like they were puny cultists

:-) That was a very interesting game.
The Heldrake took forever to even come into play.
I had expected it to be a main player in the last game, but the orc on the bike snuck up behind him and royally kicked his arse, right after his first annihilating burst of demonic spew-fire.
The Daemon Prince on the other hand, well he made full use of his debut and was utterly kickass too.
I'd definitely find it enjoyable to take those two out for a spin again in the future.
Even the Chaos Cultists didn't suck quite as much as I expected them to.

I would think a unit of 20 would hold out much longer than what these guys did :( Basically just got into charging distance, got shot at and immediately had to run away.

Big Shootas are great against factions with fragile vehicles, like the dark eldar. Especially since they have those pesky saves that could negate a rokkit that actually hit them. Lootas seem like a great anti-vehicle choice too, just not with a heavily cluttered environment and those turbo boosting jet bikes of death whizzing around. I guess my best bet against those guys as an Ork player would be to use a fast vehicle with anti-infantry guns, like warbuggies. Or maybe jump infantry? Furtha orky R'n'D required, zog it.

So, I'm starting to properly appreciate that there are benefits to be had from only starting to play Warhammer 40K from the 6th edition.
I watched a game for a few minutes on Vassal yesterday, and one of the players plainly got one of the rules wrong.
I was just observing though, so never said anything ... but I think there's probably quite a lot of that sort of thing around.
People who have been playing since the 4th and 5th edition frequently don't seem to know the actual rules, as many of them have changed since then as the game is developed further. Then, because a lot of experienced players play so quickly (not looking up rules as they go along) a lot of information is never checked ; and mistakes are made because of this.
Basically, they were firing a munition strike from a Tau Hammerhead.
After establishing that the shot missed, they simply declared "miss" and moved onto doing other stuff.
But since that's a blast weapon (despite not being ordinance) it really ought to have scattered.
Right ?
AFAIK all blast weapons in 6th edition scatter, including those which in previous editions did not scatter.
It makes the whole thing much easier to remember if every blast weapon scatters, I think... so it's a sensible rule change I reckon.

As for the game which we played last, well I wouldn't want to be those Orc Boyz... that's for sure.
They went down like a pack of Chaos Cultists at a wholesale demon sacrifice meeting.
The Reaver jetbikes were able to make good use of a less open-plan environment, but even with a flickerfield (which if i recall rightly, didn't so anything useful) the Ravager didn't last long. Which is problematic, as it was nearly the only thing in the army which vehicles aren't immune to.
With a 500 point army there just aren't really any other good options though for anti-vehicle units, as the Ravager is so mobile and 3 dark lances are formidable.

I had no idea this even existed! A few years ago I had searched for a tabletop emulator to no avail.

Should I use this module?

:-) That's the one.
It basically lets you use a program called Vassal to play tabletop Warhammer 40K over the internet.

Vassal 40K is really obscure though I guess, because it's not an official product and it's a small team who have developed the 40K module.

I'm having difficulty getting into Warhammer 40K properly because I haven't really got anybody to play against.
Or more accurately, no real avenue for playing the game.
There's a local wargame club, but it's very poorly organised.
Even if you do get a game arranged, there's often no room to play.
The last time I went there was no room to even play Magic the Gathering all cramped up, or even a little bit of table space to lean on and do a bit of mini-painting.... never mind enough room to play a spread out game like Warhammer 40K. So I just had to come home, and it was a 32 mile journey for nothing. Boooooo !

The games of 40K which I've played I really enjoyed, though.

:-) Would anybody like to have a tutorial match with me using Vassal, to help me learn the game better ?

Someone teach me how to use this!
I work 2 doors from a Games Workshop and only ogle at the figurines. It'd be great to try something like this out.
My only knowledge of Warhammer 40k is the Dawn of War videogames universe and a little bit of the Space Marines in book form.

:-) Sure.
That would be good.

You work right next to a Games Workshop ?
I saw in White Dwarf that if you go in and ask, then the staff can play a tutorial game with you.
I live hundreds of miles away from the nearest Games Workshop store, though.
I don't think I've ever even been in one.
