Does that same thing that makes you read every sign you're around also give you mad gamer skills? Or even one contradictory strength in what is otherwise a barren desert of said mad skills?

I'm specifically thinking of online first-person shooters that feature units who can cloak or disguise themselves as allies. I rarely play FPS and my reflexes and improvisation in them aren't very good, and only lately have I been dabbling. That's why it's so striking how these kinds of sneaky tactics consistently and repeatedly vex most other players, whereas with me, if a ripply Predator-esque effect or a unit whose name isn't red but whose model makes me say, "Hey, you're just a bad guy with different colors and you copied one of my teammates' names" enters my point of view, I pretty much always notice them and at least manage not to die from them sneaking up on me, anyway.

Just another funny example of the spectrumite's oddly isolated and contradictory abilities, I suppose.

btw, I'm playing Transformers: War for Cybertron. Transformers is the only way you'd trick me into playing a FPS.

That....isn't exactly something I'd personally count as "acceptable" by any standards, whether it was used in a coversation in person or on a forum/chat room.

I'm new to Wrong Planet though, but I still think that should probably be modded before it either upsets/disturbs someone greatly, or starts a flame war, or both.

Are there no mods here??? I'm asking because I've seen quite a few "unacceptable" posts (IMO) just from browsing the forums. =S

Aren't we all are on something? And yes I do read every detail in most games.

I mostly play RPGs, and I have the obsessive need to clean out every area before I move on, keep every item, see every line of dialogue that I can, and find and complete as many quests as possible.

I definitely think my attention to minute detail helps in my gaming. I'm not too much of a FPS person, but I do play World of Warcraft and The Sims 2, as well as the occasional console game. My WoW characters are always geared completely correctly, gemmed and enchanted exactly how they should be, and specced very precisely. I'm able to excel at DPS, healing, and tanking because I pay close attention to whatever I'm doing. I am a perfectionist with my characters, suffice to say.

With The Sims 2, I do a lot of micromanaging, but my real passion lies with creating Sims. Every little detail MUST be exactly how I want it. I've got numerous skintones, eye colours, tons of makeup and face/shading enhancers, many many hairstyles, and my Sims MUST meet the "vision" I have in my head of how I want them to look when they are done.

It's hard for anyone to tell when people are joking/sarcastic on forums, and more so for us here on wrongplanet. I think he meant that response as a joke though and would give the benefit of the doubt in any case.

Back to the OP - The problem I have with this is that I've found very few games that really reward attention to detail (apart from the adventure genre which I'm not really a fan of.) That's one of the measures I have for what makes a good game though - I will search in every crevice, turn over every stone, but the question is, will the game reward me proportional to the effort?

Is not Spoiler btw but it's nice to find on detailed maps.

For example, In starcraft 2 maps. I find easter eggs like the Tauren Marine next to a Tauren Outpost. When you click on it 3 times or something. It launches itself to the moon. On one map, I find signs that read "Brokeback Mining Station", iPistol (Terran Marine is apparently dancing while doing some sort of revolver twirl with the iPistol), There was also a shop sign called "BJ's Clam Shack". The last thing I find was a sign for "Nuke Cola" (reference to Fallout?). Also some of the cheat codes for Starcraft 2 references to geek culture.

Well for an fps example, I have found myself in the past being able to spot when the enemy is likely to attempt a sneak attack in Halo 3, I notice the signs and often try to reveal their plan. Or I can usually see when someone is useing invisibility, it rare for me to miss seeing them, on the inverse I am also pretty good at useing the stealth kill and can stand right in front of them and they won't notice.

I also like to check everything out in a game, I spend a great deal of my time in shooters searching for things like ammo, has gone against me as I have had to work faster in the Bioshock Left 4 Dead games because of respawnign enemies. Sad as I generally like checking out the enviroment.

There are mods, but this is how we are and it doesn't bother them, at least not the present mods.

This is exactly why I was so disappointed with Bioshock. Its predecessor, System Shock 2, rewarded exploration as much as any game I've played, and yet Bioshock threw that out the window like so many modern games do in the interest of pacing. I hope Deus Ex 3 doesn't fall into the same trap, but I'm afraid it will. Developers don't encourage you to play at your own pace and explore every corner of the game world like they used to.
