Let me start by saying that i DO NOT buy stuff over the internet, especially electronics related. I have had nothing but disappointment and frustration buying things online, i want to go into a store, pick up the item, then put down cash for it.

I absolutely cannot find a Pandora Battery or Magic Memory Stick (PB/MMS) anywhere! Even Gamestop, as much as i hate them, has no idea what im talking about. I checked store inventory online for gamestop, bestbuy, radio shack, and others but i dont get any hits. they can be had for as little as 10 dollars online, but i dont trust online retailers.

Anyone know where i can get one? im dying to play the old school games but without the PB/MMS, there is no way to install them.

Technically they are illegal. So you either have to buy them online or make them yourself. A store like Gamestop wouldn't be caught dead selling one so I have no idea why you think they would.

Anyways they are pretty simple to make, all you need is an existing PSP battery and a knife.

Illegal? Third party developers make stuff for every system, there are tons of "off brand" accessories for PSP.

AFAIK, you need a psp that already has a custom firmware in order to make a PB.

The batteries and custom firmware are most commonly used for playing roms and also pirated version of PSP games. That is considered illegal. And also you need the battery before you can put the Custom Firmware on your PSP.

First off, the pandora's battery/magic stick and custom firmwares are NOT illegal in the US. Their legal status has never been challenged in a US court of law. Recently a federal court ruled that hacking an iPhone's firmware is legal, so I don't think it's much of a stretch to say this precedent could be applied to PSP firmware hacks, if a case ever went to court. Of course pirated games would be illegal, but that's not what OP is asking for.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any offline retailers that sell them. Online retailers like dealextreme sell them for as little as 6 bucks which is probably a negligible risk even if something went wrong (I bought one from them and it worked perfectly.) If you're absolutely against buying online, your best bet is to try and find someone with a PSP Phat or a certain rare type of PSP Slim (generally the Daxter pack ones) who is already running custom firmware. These PSPs can convert your battery automatically in the recovery menu (holding R when powering on.) Failing that, you'll have to convert it manually, which is much trickier. There are many guides online to help you with this. Good luck.

Go on to craigslist. There are always someone offering a hacked psp or will do it for you at about $30 to do it.
