Hi guys. I've just installed the Starcraft 2 game that I bought in July on my new mac, and I've activated it with my newly created Battlenet account. However, when I click on the Starcraft 2 icon to play it, the play button is blurred out and keeps wanting to download and install the patch. When it finishes doing the patch, it just starts downloading and installing it again instead of allowing me to play. I can't post on the Blizzard forums because it keeps saying I need a starcraft character to post there. Can someone pleas tell me whats going on, because right now I've been unable to start the game yet.

There are usually ways to get the patch manually from a 3rd party. That is your best bet. It is likely there a much less such "3rd parties" that are mac users though.
Why not try Bootcamp already ? 8p
If your autopatcher is the issue that may help!

How do play the bootcamp? The game doesn't want to let me play anything at all until the patch is installed, the play button is blurred out. Anyway, I sent an e-mail to Blizzard technical support.

I tried to re-install Starcraft 2. Now the update window is completely inactive.

Come on! Does no one know what I'm supposed to do about my problem?

Edit: When I started installing for the third time, I got the message "Thank you for installing Starcraft 2" instead of the usual "You must create a Battlenet account" and it gave the option "activate" which I assume was to activate the product. I clicked on the "activate" button and now I think I just have to wait for the game re-install again. I'll see how it goes.

Nope, it still goes to a screen saying it wants to update the game with a patch, and the play button on that screen is still blurred out. Arrrgh!! !

I'm checking the mac technical support on the starcraft 2 forums. See what I can do for you.

Have you try installing/patching in safe mode?

No I haven't tried installing it in safe mode. But I've tried reinstalling Starcraft 2 3 times already and still the same problem. Now it says that there was a tracker problem, leading to the download loop. Why the hell doesn't it just allow you to skip the patch download and just play single player campaign?

Well bugger that! I just spent a lot of money on this mac and if this issue isn't solved I'm going to return the game, ask for my money back and send blizzard an e-mail asking them to delete my account but not before complaining about their absolute crap download client and registration procedure! God, I've been looking forward to playing this game ever since it was announced. I'm absolutely furious!

Update: I'm downloading the patch from a third part source. I'll see if it works if I try to install the patch manually.

This was a problem on windows machines during the beta. My friend had to download the patch from a torrent and apply it since Blizzzard's patcher did exactly what it's doing for the OP here.

If you played the SC2 beta, totally uninstall that, folders, everything. Sometimes beta screw up the full program if you have them on the same machine.

Also, I played SC2 last night after not playing for awhile. There was like 5 patches it had to go through and download. You may just have to wait until it goes through and installs all the patches. They will got through one at a time. So it will say one is done then check to see if you have latest version, if not, it gets next patch.

If that does noy work, try uninstalling full game, folders, everything. Then reinstall.

Thanks but I haven't played the beta and this mac is brand new. Although, if it was a problem with the beta then maybe it was still a problem the released game when it was launched. The copy I've tried to install was bought from some leftover stock at the store when the game was launched. I tried to let it run through, only to let it stop at that tracking problem error.

The updater works by downloading torrents. I've reinstalled the game again and I'll see what happens if I just try and let the download run it's course. If it doesn't work this time, then I'll install the version of the patch which I downloaded from a third party support.

Good news. I got the game working, it seems like it was a server problem. I told them not to worry about that e-mail I sent:
