I found a virtual pet site for older teens and adults called Aywas. It's user submitted based. So you can submit colorations for pets and ideas for objects and clothes. There is a human avatar. You can custom your pets. You capture the pets kinda like you do in pokemon. They don't give you a pet right off. You have to either adopt or find someone willing to give you one. If You decide to join use this referral #17986 then contact me on there I'll give u a fairly high level pet. My name on Aywas is Howlingpotatoe. They even have a raffle for real prizes. Right now it's for a 25$ amazon giftcard. If you join I'll help you when I can too.
