Was thinking of getting th new pokemon B&W. It looks kinda cool, even with the lack of original plot and the usual pitfalls (the female character looking like a trailer trash whore for one)

But come on! This entralink thing?? I can't even go online - I have to trade with people right opposite me.

That's fine if you're a 12 year old Japanese kid (well, maybe not at the moment.. poor Japan) but I'm in my mid twenties and hanging around schools to trade is considered just a little creepy at my age.

Argh. No fair. *sulks*

So eh, yeah, back to more intelligent things....

Could you go online in previous Pokemon games?

I stopped playing after the gold/silver/crystal series, so I was never able to trade with anything other than a link cable.

Oops.. this should have gone in the 'games and video games' subforum (I wondered why there were references to C++, but I just figured people here took gaming really seriously....)

Hm.. a truck marked 'free candy'.. that would alleviate suspicion..

@Orwell, no they're even sneakier than the previous games (a lot of content was online); I've checked a few sites now and it seems that you need to be on the same intranet as the person you're trading with. I'm hoping someone invents a mod for it though (no hints, computer people... :) )

Wait... so you could trade/battle over the internet in previous Pokemon versions? Which game?

I never tried it myself, but my little brother used to battle with kids over in America. I loose track, but I think the leaf-green -> sapphire versions had that option. SoulSilver had a lot of wifi-mediated add ons too (battles, trades, competitions..)

The games of the fourth generation, I think. So, diamond/pearl, platinum and soul silver/heart gold (remake of silver/gold )

That's very impressive. I feel like an old fart now. Back in my day, we only had 150 Pokemon, and if we wanted to trade we had to use a link cable, uphill, through the snow, both ways!

I think you might be able to battle online, but a new add on (black city or white forest) can only be accessed and mantained if you have a friend with the opposite game pack.

Those were the days! Sadly, they have failed to make full use of the DS technology and the game's starting to look very... well, lame. It's more polished/colourful than the old red/blue, but back then it was shiney and new!

I was always jealous of my friend's yellow version (I borrowed my brother's red).

In SS/HG though the first pokemon on your team walks behind you.

Actually, that's another point; does anyone know if the pokemon follow behind in Black/white?

EDIT: they can't :( argh, it's like the secret bases in emerald.... why change a good thing?? No berries either.. I loved them!

uh... yeah, no

You can trade with people around the world, or your friend's wirelessly on the internet.... still

there are plenty of berries

but no your pokemon won't follow you

Black City and White Forest are enhanced by having a friend or two but you in no way HAVE to have someone else.

Where are you getting your information? I think someone is trolling you.

Thanks for the clarification :) I read the info on various sites. One said that Black F/White C become depopulated if you don't mantain them with friends.

You can access the GTS(Global Trade Something) in every pokesenter in B/W. There you can battle and trade aslong as you have an internet connection to access the servers or whatever. I traded with someone from the US yesterday, who i spoke to on reddit.com, via Wi-Fi. You can slo trade via wireless/Ifrared. Same things goes for battles ofcourse.
