I'm sure there'd be a few chess grandmasters on the spectrum. Nearly a thousand people have achieved the title since it was introduced in 1950. About 0.6% of all people are on the spectrum, so...that'd mean just under 6 GMs. The actual number is likely to be much higher, since chess is a popular activity among those on the spectrum. So is there any GMs that are autistic and chess GMs?

The only GM I am aware of with a formal diagnosis of AS is the Czech grandmaster David Navara. There has, of course, been speculation about other well known chess players, past and present.

The English player Jack Rudd, who is awaiting ratification of his IM title, also has a formal diagnosis of AS.

Most are probably high-functioning enough that they have gone undiagnosed.

I read somewhere that Bogolyubov (one of the strongest players in the world in the '20s and '30s, played twice in a world championship match) almost certainly had AS. It of course was undiagnosed at the time.

I wonder if TitanGeek is one...he's told me he plays Chess regularly but I don't know if he has it.

Anyone know of rumors that Morphy is an Aspie? 'Cuz unless those pop up, I doubt it.
