Pokemon White or Black Any advise for an "old" tra

Now I am not old per say, but I have been playing pokemon for about 12 years. I think my math sucks, anyway I am trying to learn the ropes again and I am so confused at the new gameplay. I'm used to pokemon saphire and Ruby, and I need some tips on how to get back into the game. Any advise?

Forget about the old stuff. everything is new in black/white. You won't find a single older generation pokemon until you complete the main quest. Get three to four diverse and powerful pokemon with one for use as an HM slave. although you won't need HM's even half as much as in previous games.

black/white have some really diverse pokemon so you don't have to settle on the first of any type you catch, keep your options open. Dream World recently opened up so I'd suggest looking into that to see what you can get from it. Have fun.
