Just pulled the biggest herp a derp of my life in terms of
gaming, so I need some advice and here is the details of what happened.
Brought home a new game for my OXB(original Xbox, for those of you who aren't familiar with shortenings)
It was Panzer Dragoon Orta, still brand new(well, for how old it is) Shrink wrap still on it, all the booklet pages still in there, disc looked perfect.
Anyway, haven't played my OXB in quite some time. Like, since 360 launch, cuz I've been busy with it.
Got my OXB and cords out of the closet, took them into my gaming room. Took down my broken DVD player and put it aside, put the OXB in its place. Threaded the cords through the slat in the back of my entertainment center cabinet. Went back there, and accidently didn't realize I plugged in my DCs AV cords into my tv instead of the OXBs.
So I was pissed, cuz I couldn't figure out what was wrong(like I said, its been awhile since I played it, plus I bought a used one near the end of the consoles life cycle anyway, so I forgot what the AV cords looked like)
Picked up the OXB(it was unhooked from the AV cords by then, cuz I thought it was broken since I obviously couldn't get picture)
The disc slid into the system, as in out of the disc tray and into the system. In desperation(at this point I was gonna buy another system to replace this one) I took the disc tray out of the system, and though I heard a "SNAP!" when I did, like something breaking. Went to unplug the AV cords, and realized I had the wrong cords plugged in(its an old SDTV, and has only two sets of plug ins for 2 systems, the other being my 360) Whoops.
Put the right AV cords in this time, plugged it back up, put the disc tray back in, put the disc in, everything seems to be going fine.
But I'm worried. Not only that, but theres a lot of dust on the console too. Should I buy a backup??? Everything seems to be running smoothly in the games so far, except the disc tray might need an extra push of the button to get it to go back in.
Should I buy a spare system, just in case??? I don't want to, but I also don't want my system to die and me not have something I can just hook up in its place. I could use the old one to take apart and use the parts for salvage(I like building my own machines and stuff out of spare parts, annoys the piss outta my downstairs neighbors though....Oh well)
If you think I should, from where??? Don't really like eBay, it seems like every time I buy an old system there its dustier than a broom from the 30s.
Thanks in advance WrongPlanet!! !
I wouldn't worry about buying another OXB. eBay isn't bad if you look for people selling that receive good feedback. If you purchase a system there, and it's not what you expect, they'll usually work with you to make sure you get what you want. Also, you may check your local GameStops in the area and find what you're looking for. A few of them still sell used, outdated consoles. They may be a little higher on the price range, but normally, you'll get a 30 day warranty with it. But, if you're set on trying to optimize your current OXB's performance before buying another, try taking canned air (for cleaning PC's) and blow out the inside real good. Also, I checked for you (and I am assuming you have an XB360), and it is backwards compatible for the 360. All it requires to receive an update when you insert the disc in the tray normally. Though, from what I read, there may be a few framerate issues, but all in all, you should be good to go. I hope this helps.
