Now with solar systems instead of a single planet per star system. Also, destroyer-class ships can only travel interplanetary distances and there's a new super-Dreadnought class. Also, it sounds like ships in general gain experience points or something, possibly similar to that which is done for capital ships in SoaSE.

I think having an actual solar system per star will be somewhat more realistic than Sword of the Stars 1's solitary planet per star setup.

They will have to completely re-work their AI system. The first game's AI was so horrible it was just pointless to play it single player.

AI has only one hard coded order: Close to Range.

Its just silly to see ships with Railguns (longest range weapon in the game) owned by the AI closing in to near collision range with your ships (when your ships are just sitting there).

Anyways, LOTS of things from the original game need to be reworked. I like the concept of Sword of the Stars but the implementation was amateurish to say the least.

The tactical AI is rather dumb, but on strategic level it's not so bad. Of course, an AI will tweak each system every turn whereas a person may get bored attempting to do the same, so that may account for some of that.
