Planet Explorers free (Block Building/defense gameplay)
Hi,
I thought i share with you this game i found. It is called Planet Explorers. You can download the free yet unfinished version at this location:
http://pathea.net/planet-explorers
This game has beautiful graphics, very fun resource gathering system and block placement system, and so far i enjoyed every moment of it. You gather resources like flowers, ore, stone, limestone, wood, stone, copper, iron - many more but these are the ones i found so far. As far as the story goes you are a human from Earth which became polluted, forced to find a new home. Upon arrival of a earth like planet you suddenly crash and you start next to the crashed spaceship.
Enemies come in the form of a vast variety of creatures. The overall feeling and behavior of the enemies and animals is very well done. Most enemies are recommended i think to be taken down with stationary weapon emplacements, some of which i encountered were the Arrow Turret and the Cannon, they are really fun to use and perform well. You can make nice structures and walls and take on packs of monsters. I find it fun and a challenge. There are going to be editors for Land, Sea and Air vehicles, so you can imagine designing a digger, transport vehicle, tanks, off road vehicles etc.
I'll share a Youtube video, but simply search for Planet Explorers on Youtube for more although i haven't seen a video showing the structures you can build yet. If you happen to download the game choose the "Story" mode because the other modes have issues. In about 1 or 2 year this game will be completely finished i think, so it will be amazing.

I have played some more and it is definitely great. Basically you can design a character, make tools and weapon emplacements. Then you can go collect a wide variety of flowers which all have their use in recipes and "Scripts" as they call it. Basically you can dig anywhere and build anything out of any material. The creation system is really easy to use and fun. You progress up the ladder of tool quality, for example you start out with a dagger, which you attempt to cut a small tree down. Then you can make Wood tools if you have the Scripts, then Stone, Bronze, Iron, Steel etc.
Almost from the get go you can drive your own vehicles, but you have to buy some parts from a NPC. Even though there is no sound for vehicles it still is a blast. Customization runs deep in this game, if you know Spore you have a idea of what to expect except this editor is more detailed and more precise.
Thanks for posting this! I'm intrigued. One question:
Do you buy stuff via resources acquired in-game or is it some kind of microtransaction? This game sounds really interesting, but I think I'd have to consider spending real $$ kind of a deal-breaker for me looking at it any deeper.
Then again, since the game is only in Alpha, it might be that its free for now, but won't be later.
PS: I didn't see the YouTube embed until I accidentally clicked on the OP. Not sure if that's just me or something that is simply not enabled on WP. (As in, my FF ad-block being a bit overactive or something.)

This game is going to have multiplayer too yes. I am sure it is going to be a regular game, as in buy once and have it. Atleast now you can already buy it for like 75% off because it is not yet released. So far i have found no indication any item is exclusive so that means you can use everything in the Alpha now. I don't think they are planning on milking this dry. If the game delivers what it promises, namely Land, Sea, Air vehicle creators, vast customization system on just about anything then i am personally more than happy to pay 30-40 Euros.
Of course the final version of this game will not be free, but is it a game so much more than any out there in my opinion. Right now the Alpha has issues, that's is sure. But they will sort them out. The company that makes this game Pathea were making two games at the same time but are now focusing on Planet Explorers alone.
I forgot to add. The main CURRENCY in this game is "MEAT" This is a item that is acquired killing animals and monsters. It does not take long to stockpile enough meat to buy a army of vehicles. If with stuff you mean Herbal Juice (Healing potion), Furniture, Weapon Emplacements, Vehicles, Weapons and just about anything that is a item can be made out of materials. To give you a rough idea: Arrow Turrets take Wood to make. Cannons take Copper. Long Cannons take Iron, all resources gathered yourself. It doesn't take long to gather and soon you will find yourself with the opportunity to make nearly every script you find. A iron car body frame individually assembled with blocks by hand only amount to about 30 iron which is around a minute of mining.
So you get plenty of resources, but the dangerous world takes it toll and you will use up a lot as well. Making 10 Long Cannons is like 120 iron. Anyway when i found this game i was looking around for the game Starforge. That game has a horrible alpha with nothing functioning. Planet Explorers though has surprised me, i thought "Whatever i'll give it a go" and i have been playing it a lot since. The Alpha is very smooth and there is already so much that you can do.
