Well... I've heard of these multiplayer online games. I really have nothing better to do... so whats a deal with these kind of games?
I suppose World of warcraft is one of them... I'd guess lego universe is another.
What I wonder is... are there any games like that actually worth playing? if so... are there any free games?
I don't want to spend money on a game I may not really like.

Do you play any multiplayer online games? should I try one? what is there that would be worth my time?

There are some free ones...

Lord of the Rings Online - http://www.lotro.com/ - If you liked the Lord of the Rings series, this one might be for you. It uses the lore of the book series, but throws you into the action from a different point of view.

Age of Conan - http://www.ageofconan.com/ - If you like blood, guts, and barbarians, this might be your game. Set in the land of Conan the Destroyer.

Everquest 2 - http://www.everquest2.com/ - Sword and sorcery type rpg.

Soon to be Free to Play...

City of Heroes - http://www.cityofheroes.com (site if down for maintenance right now) - City of Heroes is a game where you can make a hero or villain in pretty much endless iterations. Pretty fun. Going Free to Play soon.

Paid games...

World of Warcraft - http://us.battle.net/wow/en/ - Known as the destroyer of lives, WoW boasts 11million players. Huge fantasy rpg. Very fun.

EVE Online - http://www.eveonline.com/ - Fun space game. You train your pilot and mine and kill your way to the top. Hugely involved.

DC Universe Online - http://www.dcuniverseonline.com/ - Set in the DC Universe

Hope that gives you a little head start on what's out there. I play pretty much all these games. There are many more out there!

I personally like World of Warcraft. It is free (supposedly, not sure how true, I pay already) to play up to level 20, but I guess you'd still have to buy the game.

The World of Warcraft trial is free to play up to level 20 now. You can download it from the link I listed and try it. Most games have some sort of free trial.

First you pick your server. Then you make your character. It gives you a bunch of options to choose from. Just pick something that sounds fun. Then you will start the game. Kill things. People with ! above their heads have quests for you. You turn them in to people that have ? above their heads. It is pretty simple and the game should give you hints.

They're pretty much just for teens.

I can also recommend Champions Online, a Free-To-Play superhero MMORPG. And when they say "free to play", they mean you can go through the entire experience, all the way up to level cap (level 40), without ever giving them a dime. As a Silver-level subscriber, you start off with two character slots, eight character archetypes to choose from, one of five travel powers (selected on reaching level 6, at the end of the tutorial), and a variety of costume pieces and bodies to choose from. If you want more characters, more archetypes, more costume pieces, or more travel powers, those can be purchased through the in-game store, or you can upgrade to Gold membership ($15/month, slightly less purchased over several months at a time, or $300 for a lifetime Gold membership) and get eight character slots (16 for a lifetimer), many more costume pieces, all the archetypes, most of the travel powers (Rainbow Flight, Cloud, Magic Carpet, Phoenix Flight, Tornado Flight, and the upcoming Jetpack Flight all have to be purchased still), and a stipend of 400 Atari Coins per month (about $5 worth) to purchase things from the in-game store.

There are three adventure packs that are only available either by purchase or to Gold members; however, it looks like new adventure packs are now being introduced as "comic series", multi-part adventures published at the rate of one chapter per week, and are free to Silvers as well. (The first comic series, Aftershock, recently had its last chapter published, and is getting good reviews from the players.)

Remarkably, the online community is helpful, and very noob-friendly. You may have to tolerate the chat being consumed by Grond jokes. (Grond is an incredibly powerful superbeing in the desert, best avoided unless you're in a group and at or near level cap - I like him because he messes up everybody without regard for hero or villain, so if there's a nest of bad guys in the radioactive areas, I can just wait outside their aggro range, and eventually Grond will drop in on them and tear them up something awful. :) )

No. There's always too much boring grinding and they usually expect and/or force you to team up with other players to progress.

I have played:

Anarchy Online
World of Warcraft
EVE Online
Champions Online
Age of Conan
Star Trek Online (yeah, I know, I was curious)
Lord of the Rings Online
Fallen Earth
and maybe some others I'm forgetting

I recommend Champions and LotRO, which are both free to play. Champions is quite fun for a little while, mainly because of the travel powers, and LotRO has a large and interesting world to explore.

World of Warcraft if you like 'popular' large MMORPGs. Though I heard it's starting to die out.

Eve Online if you're patient enough to enjoy a super in-depth video game equivalent to a stock market/spreadsheet/spaceship simulator.

Second Life if you're rich, sexual deviant, and/or wanting something primarily for making e-friends.

APB: Reloaded if you want the closest thing to a Grand Theft Auto MMO (it's also free).

I wouldn't say WoW is starting to die out. Just since Cataclysm launched they have seen another million new subscribers, bringing the total around 12 million players.

My favorites are Wakfu and Vindictus. MapleStory is also great, but I haven't played it in a long time.
