Not the recent news that making sure young children do not get 15 or 18+ games...
It's that it's now just gonna head into online stuff and possibly into phones too... which is annoying because it'll cost loads.
Why is it so hard to create a single player game without having to use the internet? Actually the second annoying thing which is related to this is that some games require an internet connection to play... when not everyone is able to do so.

I totally understand what you mean. Gaming has taken a new route. Part of the reason many games require an internet connection can be attributed to things like: tracking, data mining, and anti-piracy. In addition, games also like to add features such as stat uploads, enable downloadable content (which is in a manner also just an excuse for releasing an unfinished game) Or it can also be just another way to nickel and dime all of us to oblivion (like we can easily afford everything) etc. I remember the days when you could just buy a game and have the option to play it single player without the need to login to some client. Although one advantage to centralized gaming is not having to worry about dealing in physical media and losing stuff. Its also organized. There are things like offline modes, etc (like in steam, but such things also have dependencies too) This topic also reminds me of something very ridiculous, and this is Facebook integration. Your every move is marked and tracked. Funny thing is, most people gladly volunteer everything and anything about what they do on a day to day basis. "What game are you playing?" I do not have Facebook and refuse to use it for a number of reasons. The topic you presented here is important and serves as a reminder of how controlled things have become.

Besides my favorite series I can't play videogames anymore (and I don't even have access to it right now). They are geared towards being addictive so much now that I can't control how long I play them.

I also think that developers are slowly trying to make it so that games are not able to resale. Assasin's creed you have an online component that comes with the disc, you would have to buy into that seperate from xbox live if you were to get the game preowned. Call of duty elite- if they tried to make it so you have to have that to play online then that is another cost.

No offense but that's not really relevant to the topic at hand... :?

Don't get me wrong, I understand the whole anti-piracy, data mining and tracking block... yet they should have implemented more on the actual formatting of the disc or media.
Doom did wonders by selling well, then releasing the source coding... nowadays companies would not risk anything being copied one bit.

I don't like it. I prefer my games to be single player, not require an internet connection to play, not require other people to play, and not have microtransactions.

I don't like digital downloads. I want my game on a disk or cartridge or whatever in my house.

If things change too much instead of playing new games I'll sit in my house and play my hoarded collection of old games that aren't like that.

I don't mind online for games like World of Warcraft or Diablo but I hate how everything has tacked-on online now like Dead Space 2. Its a good thing that sites like GOG exist so people can have a chance to play the good'ol games that don't get made anymore.

Multi player should not be forced and it usually strips the game down. I like games like Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams that can be played local splitscreen or single player and feel seamless doing both. Digital downloads are too easy to have hacked though, we should keep physical copies. I am fighting to keep CDs alive instead of music downloading being popular.

I agree. Give me a disk with a good single player game that tells me the controls, gives me a story, and lets me go off and do my own thing. No need for all of the online rubbish, ridiculous anti-piracy features (Assassins Creed 2 for the PC comes to mind, for a time you HAD to be connected to the internet to play it with no exceptions), and often annoying tips and hints that half the time can't be turned off.

Although I agree that forced online play kind of sucks for certain games. I'd actually like to see more less massive Co-op games made. How much more fun would games like Fallout and Skyrim be if you could LAN party them with your friends?

I'm more concerned about how the console market has effected formerly PC Exclusive titles. For example the Elder Scrolls series both Morrowind and Oblivion where PC Games ported to Consoles. Thier menus and UI still retained extra fuctionality for PC users. Skyrim was developed as a multi platform game but, the Menus and UI seem to have suffered in order to make the game more accessable to Console users. I totally understand that the Console market is huge and, developers want to make games that are accessable to this big market. The problem is when obvious advantages of PC are ignored when developing this title. I play on a PC because I want to take advantage of it's enhanced features.

The Online side will be stable and will likely be not used for Single Player Experiences once they understand that tacking it on loses you customers.

Phone gaming is a fad, and the sooner customers realise that wasting £1 on each game for 20 minutes of gameplay is worse then buying a £30 game with hours of content, the better.

See Chromehounds as the perfect example of a Single Player game ruined by the servers being shut down....many fans of the game are not planning on buying the sequel should it come out with the same things.

I only worry about the "Online always" console idea that M$ are planning.

My thoughts exactly. It seems to me that video games are going back to the way they were in the days of the Atari 2600 when a second player was needed for some games.
