Hello! :)

What kind of PSP games do you people think have the most interesting storyline?

Trying to find something worthwhile to play.

Hi,

Sorry if my grammar is bad, not a native speaker. I liked Tales of Eternia alot. You might experience the storyline as cheesy if you played lots of games in this genre (games like final fantasy), if you haven't its awesome. The game mechanics are actually alot like FF, exept the fights are real-time, which I think makes it just so much more dynamic. Also, the puzzles are actually quite hard, animations are awesome and there are alot (really alot) of secret area's with relevant contents, that make it worthwhile to explore every single handdrawn pixel of 3 immense worlds. Definetly a must have if you enjoy RPG's.

I'd say Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (INB4: HURR HURR YOU LIKE KINGODM HEARTS, KH is crap, or any variation)

It's not the first game in the series but it is the first game in the timeline. Definitely worth checking out.

The other that I'd suggest that's another 'not first in the series but first in the storyline' is Final Fantasy: Crisis Core.

I'd say both of these are definitely worth checking out if you want something for it's story : )

Well, obviously the Shin Megami Tensei series is pretty much the best JRPG series ever, so I'll list a couple of ones that I haven't mentioned before:

Disgaea (If you want a humorous story-line)
[i]Final Fantasy IV (I haven't played it yet, but my brother assures me that it is amazing)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (I am getting this one in the upcoming MGS Collection for the PS3, but I can safely say that the series is great)
Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (I'm kicking myself over letting this one slip by but I've heard it called "The Best JRPG You've Never Played".

I've played Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and it was alright, but I'm not a big Final Fantasy fan. It and Kingdom Hearts pretty much prove that while Square Enix can write gripping plots with shocking plot twists, they fail as writers and their characters are always depressingly bland. Some people don't mind this, but I personally can't bring myself to care about the plot if I'm too busy being distracted by lines like (and I quote): "I smell you Ansem!"

My favorite PSP game is Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles. It's a platformer where you play as vampire hunters who enter Dracula's Castle and fight all kinds of monsters so that they can rescue the maidens kidnapped by the evil vampire lord. You have two characters to play as: Richter Belmont who's a 19 year old male vampire hunter that uses a whip as his main weapon along with knives, axes, holy water, and crosses, and you have Maria Renard who's a 12 year old girl vampire hunter and has the ability to summon doves to fight the monsters along with other animals such as cardinals, a tiger, a turtle, and a dragon.

There's also a couple of extra games you can unlock, Rondo of Blood which was never released outside Japan (Dracula X Chronicles is a remake of it) and Symphony of the Night which is considered by many the greatest Castlevania game ever made. :)

If what you're looking for is a good story, then JRPG's are the way to go on PSP. Star Ocean: Second Evolution has a good story, as does Lunar: Silver Star Harmony. Another JRPG with a good story is Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable. And even though it's an Action RPG, I like the storyline in The 3rd Birthday.

I like "Castlevania: Lords of Shadow" better because the main character isn't a guy that looks like a girl.

I personally have no problem with that because that's how a lot of Japanese artists draw their male characters.

My opinion on games mentioned:

Kingdom Heats plot doesn't make any sense once you figure out what's really going on. The overall story is pretty convoluted. The story is still fun though if you can suspend your disbelief a little bit.

Final Fantasy IV is nothing special. Below average writing for a game today. Wouldn't bother with it.

Crisis Core has some pretty cheesy dialogue but it's okay.

The Star Ocean series has notoriously bad writing.

The only PSP game that has a story that I actually like so far is Resistance Retribution.

I've gotten through over 20 different Castlevania games including SOTN by the way.

I don't see what that has to do with anything but OK, hats off to you! :chef:

Just thought my first post made it sound like I hadn't actually played through SOTN. People who say it's the best in the series are often Castlevania newbs that haven't played through a whole lot of them by the way.

I second the Persona games. Personally, Persona 2 had the best story in my opinion but your mileage may vary.

I'll throw Breath of Fire III into the hat. Though on the PSP, it was only released in Japan and Europe, PSPs are region-free so you can play any region game on your PSP.

It has a pretty decent story about a kid who's a member of a dragon clan and it gets fairly deep into telling about who he is. I can't say much else about it without spoiling it. The beginning is really surprising if you've played RPGs from that time period. I wish they had released 1, 2, and 4 on PSP too.

I think Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror has a far better story than Resistance Retribution. In fact, Dark Mirror just might be Sony Bend's best PSP game (either that or Logan's Shadow). Can't wait to see what they do with Uncharted for the Vita.

I actually have Dark Mirror. Just haven't played much of it. Was really annoyed that the PSP didn't have the right analog stick. Made no sense and hurt the gameplay. Anyway might give it a go. What I did play of it was pretty good.
