More specifically, I can't create new characters or import other ME2 characters (I didn't tried importing ME1 characters but I'm pretty sure it still doesn't work). I can still choose to start a new game (and pick male or female characters), I can play the prologue (and watch the early cutscenes with Miranda and the Illusive Man talking and also Shepard dying) but the game freeze once the Lazarus project cutscene end.

Any idea why? I'd really like to play Mass Effect 2 since it's a very great game.

lower the graphics and number of sounds, re-install the game, upgrade your computer software and/or hardware. Any of these could be the solution.

I play on Xbox 360, and I have no idea how it could be running badly because it was running fine before.

Corrupted data on hard drive, damaged disk, damaged Xbox360 (tip: don't leave it lying in the sun)

I'm 99% sure my Xbox 360 and my disk aren't damaged, so it leaves me with corrupted data on the hardware. How do I fix that and more importantly, how do I stop it from happening again?

You could send it to Customer Service for a check-up. Stuff gets broken, just be careful when using your Xbox 360. Overheating and static shocks are the main causes of electronics getting broken.

I see no reason to have a problem with the 360.

1. Importing ME2 characters only works if you already have a ME2 character to import.

2. Importing ME1 characters means you must have a completed game from ME1 in your game profile.

3. I WILL TELL YOU THAT FREEZES SOMETIMES HAPPEN on ME2. I had to try a few times before my first attempt to play didn't lock up right at the beginning of character creation (past the initial cut scene). Once I had a character completed and working, I found the easiest way to get around the game locking up was to load a saved game, exit to main menu, then create a new character or import an existing character for a new game. Something about having accessed the HDD to load a game made it do whatever it needed to do glitch free almost every time.

4. Are you online? I wasn't and I wonder if there's a patch that auto-installs if you are online when you start the game. I can't say one way or another.

If other games work fine on your console, the odds are that there is nothing wrong with it. Delete ME2 and reinstall it. That's my best advice to try. Look under your memory settings in the main menu of the console....DELETE EVERYTHING UNDER ME2 if you have no save games you want to preserve. Also dump the HDD cache just in case.

IF YOU SUSPECT YOUR CONSOLE'S HDD IS STARTING TO FAIL....

Get a memory key and use it for game saves. Run the game from the disc. If it works fine that way, try doing it from the HDD again. If it won't work one way but it works the other, then the HDD is the issue.

Also, check your game disk for scratches, fingerprints, excessive dust, or anything else that might keep the laser from reading the disk. It could be a simple matter of needing to clean it off - if so, wiping gently with a cloth that has some Windex on it should work.
