Food-related Festivals

Who in here likes to go to food-related festivals? This includes things like chili cook-offs, BBQ cook-offs, eating contests, etc.

I haven't per se, but I want to go to a lot of them.

One of them is something called Czhilispiel, which takes place every October in Flatonia, Texas (about halfway between Houston and San Antonio on Interstate 10--100 miles in either direction). This is a big chili and BBQ cook-off. The spelling is a reference to the Czech and Slovak peopled who settled in that area. There is also a jalapeno-eating contest (I would advise extreme caution if the jalapenos are not pickled).

This is just the tip of the iceberg. I hope to make the holy pilgrimage to Terlingua, Texas for the world-famous chili cook-off there. Terlingua is about 150 miles east of El Paso, near Big Bend National Park.

I would love to, but I'm too broke to afford going to one. Most of the ones I want to attend are already expensive, and add to the fact they're also located in expensive cities. Paella, Asian food festivals, and a pizza festival. Why did you have to start this topic? Now I won't sop thinking about food.

Yeah they hold a Garlic one some where out in California.

Here in Austin, Texas we have Spamarama (yes- a spam festival!) and the Hot Sauce Festival. They're both a lot of fun. San Marcos, right down the road, used to have a huge chili cookoff called The Chilimpiad. Havn't been to it in a while.

Last weekend I went to the Texas State Fair in Dallas and tried all kinds of crazy fried stuff:

The wife and I are going to Wurstfest in New Braunfels in November.

Where are you? Surely there are some cool food festivals in your neck of the woods.

Gawd I miss Wurstfest sometimes.

If I lived in Georgia I would be all over some of these: chili cookoffs, homebrew beer competition, Vidalia onion fest, Savana Seafood fest, etc. Yum Yum!

Most of them are overpriced except for the vidalia onion festival and Taste of Atlanta. I always seem to miss Taste of Atlanta. Evidently it was earlier this week in Atlantic Station . I wouldn't have been heartbroken if I had missed the vidalia onion festival. Those onions get old pretty quickly. But thanks for the link. Now I can keep track of the times, so I won't miss anything.

We move a lot, and so everywhere we go, we like to find the local Greek festival that usually happens sometime in the Fall. We've been to the one in Oakland, CA; Nashua, NH; somewhere in western Mass; and multiple places in Pittsburgh, PA.

The food is ALWAYS great, and the culture is interesting, and the PEOPLE -- oh, the people -- are always so friendly. The Greek festivals are an absolutely wonderful family or date activity.

I'd love to go to a Pub Food festival.
