I bought it at game stop because it was twelve bucks.

Oh my gosh.

It's awesome.

So many freaking origins... D:

I'm gonna be here for a while.

I thought it was a decent game and had fun playing it. I always liked the first one better. I also liked how during dialogues between the characters and NPC’s, the characters could be totally covered in blood from head to toe, and carry out a conversation in such a nonchalant manner. “Business as usual..” It’s too funny…

I never got around to beating it but it was surprisingly oldschool and not horribly dumbed down compared to most rpgs. Of course Bioware made up for this with Dragon Age 2 and I refuse to buy anymore of their products ever again after ME3 but DA:O itself is a pretty decent game. I had a mage. Probably Bioware's last "good" game.

Yes, it is an awesome game. I spent a lot of time playing it, haven't played it in a while though, might go back to it.

I also got the PS3 version of Dragon Age Origins very cheap used recently. I didn't finish it yet though. It seems like a pretty good game but very PCish.

This is probably one of the last games that didn't get totally watered down for mult platform release. it's a sad sign of the times that you rarely see a good PC game that takes full advantage of a PCs extra capabilities. Multi-Platform games can still be good (Skyrim,Deus Ex ect) but, even with those games I feel there is somethings missing.

Just make sure you're primarily using a mage. Rogues and warriors are outright boring in this game.

However, you owe it to yourself to atleast try out all the different race/class combinations. Most of them have unique starting story lines.

Also my main character in that game was an Sneaky Elf Mage who was a pretty heavy hitting frontline fighter. I didn't rely on spells to fight as much as I used magic to enhance my melee abilities. So you can pretty much do anything you want in Dragon Age.

The biggest problem with Dragon Age: Origins is how overpowered mages are. Get Wynne, the PC, and Morrigan on your team, and stick them with a good tank like Alistar, and even noobs could probably roll through extreme difficulty. Fireball, baby.

The setting and plot are top notch, however.

These unique starting prologues only last an hour. Your origins pop up a few more times throughout the game, but it doesn't change enough to make it worth an entire playthrough as a non-mage. Try going through the entire game, or one of the scenarios, without a mage, and see how much of a massive difference it makes. Then go through it without a warrior or a rogue and compare.

Awakenings made the overall gameplay so much more fun for warriors and rogues. The archery tree actually got some good skills, and warriors gained the ability to shoot sonic waves. Unfortunately, gamers these days don't seem to care much about whether the actual gameplay is fun, so it gets a lower score than Origins, similar to DAII.

I found mages extremely useful, but I never used them as my primary damage dealers on my playthrough (Nightmare difficulty). My main character was a dual dagger wielding rogue, who did most of the damage (over 50% of total party damage), whilst Alistair tanked. Morrigan was my offensive mage, and she was used primarily in tandem with Wynne for crowd control (Paralysis, Force Field, Crushing Prison, Glyphs of Repulsion + Paralysis). The only real 'nuking' I did with my mages were Mana Clash on enemy spellcasters, and Stonefist on frozen targets. Between all the crowd control, my rogue would run around and backstab everyone to death. You also don't have the problem of positioning that you run into using mages as damage dealers, as most of their best damage comes from area of effect type spells.

Reading this thread is making me want to dust it off and play again, one of the best games ever
with some of the greatest characters and story telling personal favs been Alistair and leiliana

by the way if you want to play a really interesting setup try a mage with Arcane warrior and blood magic specializations then get as much health and mana as you can, what spells you use is entirely up to individual tastes but with my char i went for as many buffs as possible using my mana to run them then use your health for crowd control spells like paralysis force field, crushing prison and cone of cold etc build worked wonders for when i wanted to try and solo it(well except for forced companions) its even more powerful with the extra goodies in awakening also mana cash makes enemy spellcasters useless as if you're specced right its generally an insta kill to even high level spellcasters

I've recently purchased this game. I picked Dalish Warrior Elf as my Origin. I'm enjoying it so far, although I am finding a distinct lack of dragons 40 minutes in.

Play Skyrim if you want dragons, but be warned it will make you hate them, least it did me.

Oh, and I played DA Origins when the complete edition came out as a mage, I enjoyed it.

I've completed the main storyline of Skyrim, and clocked a large amount of game time. I like the dragons in Skyrim.

I just think that if a game has dragon in the name it should have a decent amount of dragons.
