I got my 16yo that whole kinect thing for Christmas. He put it in his room and thats where they all went to play it, and I didn't think anything else about it. Until tonight.

I went in there to put some clean clothes away. He was on his bed having a conversation with his tv while playing a game. I froze. I was concerned. I watched him for a minute because it seemed that he thought the tv was talking back to him. Finally I said "Are you freaking hallucinating? What did you take????" He said "No, it's the xbox" Well, THAT wasn't any better to me! I said "Whats wrong with you?" He thought it was the funniest thing I ever said and then explained how it worked.

I guess I've been living under a video game rock. I remember when three way calling was the height of technology. When I was his age.

I used to talk to my TV too. Mainly criticising it for being rubbish. And also talking back to the adverts. Then I got rid of it. It's not a sign of mental illness.

VOIP in video games is great. Imagine 40+ people in one large conversation communicating about a scenario of a video game. It's pretty fun.

Also, if you listen to some of the conversations kids have while gaming, it becomes less fun.

Anyways: I know what XBOX LIVE IS, but I dont have it because my XBOX 360 had to RROD and don't find the time to buy membership

Yes, listening to those convos get less fun and can be dangerously distracting, if you play Modern Warfare.

And some of the guys who play that online are what my cousin call "total nerds" ( I would too)

They would concentrate on kills, even if its like capture the flag (I think), when you can kill all you want and still lose. Like they care more that you are dead before attempting to take the flag.

Not so bad, my dad has trouble wrapping his head around the fact that it is possible to play a game with some one across the country, let alone talk to them
