Are there any moments you've had in gaming that you've been particularly proud of? Certain challenges overcome, whether they were intended, ones you've made up on your own, glitches you've tried to do, etc.?

One would be finishing the original Zelda, for me. Now it's a bit easy, but back then when I first tried it, it was a pain to even get past the first boss. More recently I've tried to do it without dying once(and that means doing it in one sitting or at least only being able to pause it), and got all the way up to the last dungeon. Had to kill myself on purpose because I somehow got trapped in one section of rooms. Still glad I beat it at all.

Getting 100% in games usually gives me even more enjoyment than simply finishing what you'd call mandatory. I've done The Wind Waker, Skyward Sword, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Metroid, the Prime trilogy, and Other M(though I've needed a guide to get a few of the very last pickups for each of the Metroid games). I have not gotten everything in Majora's Mask, but I've been very happy just to get every single mask.

Speaking of Skyward Sword, while I have not done it quite yet, I am pretty far into doing a six heart run of Hero Mode. Have used fairies about maybe 5 or 6 times now, but have yet to get a game over.

Finally, there's one I've been very lucky to get::

I really doubt I'd ever be able to get a Perfection in any Halo game legitimately. That said, I didn't even intend to get one in this match; I didn't know that most of the other team quit and figured I'd be owned soon enough, like usual. :P I guess I should thank those that didn't quit and stuck through it just so I could get this.

As far as stuff like sequence breaking or glitches go, the hardest one has been keeping the wooden sword and skipping the ordan sword in Twilight Princess. Was a real pain, and wasn't really worth it as I don't enjoy the game much anyway, but it's still an achievement I guess. Not sure if they should count, but finding ways to get through certain levels in Super Mario Galaxy without much needed powerups was fun as well as a bit difficult.

Recently, 2 things.

Became one of the first people in the world to complete the new survival horror game Amy on hard! despite awful controls and other stuff. I even managed to beat the final boss legitimately. I later found out everybody else was exploiting the mines on the ground to basically immobolise the boss until they had time to kill it.

And I got the final trophy for Limbo, another PSN game. This involved completing the entire game in one sitting with no more than 5 deaths (died twice). This one wasn't particularly difficult I suppose. I just liked the way I handled it.

I like trying to get the most out of the games I play (and since it's mostly PS3 this often means obtaining the trophies) but most of them aren't that difficult these days. Unless you count games like Assassin's Creed with its flag collecting. To collect several hundred flags spread out all over the massive gameworld legitimately demands an insane level of patience. And you'd possibly have to be insane considering there's zero reward for it.

Yeah, that can happen to me instantly when playing a sports game like Snooker or FIFA/PES by making a shot and winning. That or when I am stuck in any game, I tend to leave it for a bit and when I head back to that game and when I do what the game required, I have the same reaction as the aforementioned above which has happened many times.
Glitches just give me a cheap laugh.
Hey! I did everything in AC2 except all the treasures which is way more insane.

I beat Halo 2 because for 10 minutes I worked on smashing a ghost through a doorway. So I beat the final boss with a ghost

You mean that Brute Chieftan with the gravity hammer? I had no idea you could do that. Would have made it a hell of a lot easier. He was the only thing that pissed me off as much as the Flood(well, that and trying to do the vidmaster challenge at the end of Halo 3).

Yeah, the brute chieftain. I just flew the ghost in and it went about a 1/3 of the way through the doorway, finaly ended up working with a smashed up wing.

The flood in halo 1 was one of the few times a game has scared me. I was around 15 and when the flood attacks you they end up falling off. well I watched a NPC and he started screaming and flopping on the ground as it killed him and the other npc's shot at him...creepy.

Well, I beat Contra 4, but that was a long time ago. I guess I haven't really challenged myself lately. Actually, Heavy Rain's platinum was difficult due to some annoying trophies like the driving one. I have a friend who finds ps1 classics hard, but in reality I think he's just used to modern games which hold everyone's hand the whole way through. I don't think the ps1 Syphon Filter games qualify as hard, but that was a nice ps+ offering. I'm not the type who's always looking for a challenge when I pick up a game, and I rarely try to platinum any. I guess I just don't feel the need to prove anything to myself anymore. I know what I've accomplished in the past, and it's not like I need to prove any of it to the rest of the world.

I beat Contra 3 on Hard, set to three lives, without losing a single life. I beat Sin and Punishment on Turbo Hard without using a single continue. I 1CC'd Mushihimesama Futari Black Label (but not V1.5 Ultra). That's about it.

I've never been one to hold up to a challenge in a video game or anything competitive for that matter. It took me 13 years to beat Super Mario Bros. without having my parents get to level 8-4 for me. And even then, it was on the Game Boy Color version which had a save feature.

Didn't make me any less proud when I did beat it though. :)

Actually, yes! There is something I'm proud of. I recently beat the Witcher 2 on dark mode. The dragon boss demanded perfection as one unshielded hit would mean instant death. Not to mention, playing it again and choosing a different story arc produced an entirely different experience. It was awesome.

Ever since achievements and tropies were introduced, I tend to find that I'll play a game for longer to get something unlocked, or spend extra time on getting 100%. Over the last months I have got the platinum tropies for the three Uncharted games, and currently working out which game to play next.

I think I should have brought up boss battles. Guess now's a better time than any.

Are there any in particular you find unfair? Or still fair but are still relieved or proud to get past anyway?

After playing the No More Heroes games, I'm really not a fan of insta-kill attacks. :P If I'm recalling correctly, Bad Girl, Henry, and Jasper Batt Jr. all have one. That said, I still think Jeane and Ryuji gave me the toughest time in those games.

A few Zelda games have challenging bosses, most being in the 2D games. However, I do think Majora's Mask's boss battles were quite clever. I think Skyward Sword has some of the most difficult of the 3D Zelda games, and I had my first game over in years on the final battle.

I thought Cid Raines from Final Fantasy XIII was a tough boss. Very strong/tough attacks. You need a solid strategy to beat him and even then it can take a few tries to get the hang of it. Was one of the best boss fights in the game though.

^^So Cid's a boss in 13? Not a huge FF fan, but I've read there has been a character named Cid in near every FF game and have seen a couple. How odd.

Not that anyone cares, but I finally finished my six heart run through the Hero mode in Skyward Sword. No game overs, though I came very close at the very last boss. Was messing up pretty badly and lost all four of my fairies(wuld have had one more if I wasn't afraid of running into another heart piece in search of the last bottle). I committed suicide after that and decided to leave it in the recording. :P Gonna take foever to upload the rest of it but at least I already have twenty of the parts on youtube.

I think getting all 7 chaos emeralds in Sonic 2 then beating final Robotnik with Chaos Sonic. Second to that beating the shipyard level in Ghost Recon Jungle Storm, the first time it took me 3hrs straight. I forget to breathe and stuff sometimes so it's a big deal being frustrated for 3 hrs on a level lol. I can beat it easily now.

Wow! Sonic 2, that takes me back, managed to work out how you can get all of the chaos emeralds in the first 2 zones (It's possible, lots of running back and forth to get rings before hitting the next checkpoint)

Played it recently with my niece, cruelly I said that when I died she could have the next go, and proceeded to play through the entire game to the penultimate level on one life, she was not amused!
