What are some games that you enjoyed but weren't very well known or perhaps got negative reviews?

Here are some of mine:

-Clive Barker's Jericho (not very well received)
-Folklore (a hidden gem)
-Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem (I don't know how well known this one is)
-The Legacy of Kain Series (I don't remember how popular this was back in the day, but I'm sure it's memory has faded. But I loved this series, Raziel is so badass)
-Spawn Armageddon (Spawn is one of my favorite comic book characters)

I can't think of any more at the moment.

Croc 1 & 2 weren't very popular, but I love(d) them.
I also like Beyond Good & Evil, which also did not do well in sales. Still a great game.
Tiny Tank was pretty fun.

It's very well known since it's published by Nintendo.

All right then, I wasn't sure. I know it's published by Nintendo, it's just that whenever I mention it to someone, they don't know what the hell I'm talking about because they've never heard about it. It was one of the first games I got for Gamecube, I sill play it from time to time, I love that game.

star wars the force unleashed 2-got ok reviews but ultimately everyone was disappointed. i found the game pretty fun and it was quite challenging at times, at least until you figure out how to beat the certain troublesome enemies easily. technically an improvement over the last one, with the overall game engine improved and certain things like force grip and lock on fixed. only part i had a problem with was the game was so short. technically 9 levels but actually it was more like 5 levels.

final fantasy 13-despite getting good reviews, complaints of the game's linear nature really hurt it, even though final fantasy 10 was exactly as linear as final fantasy 13 and that game did great.

xenosaga-the first game did great but the second game really disappointed. that led to a game that was going to be 7 games long ended up being cut to 3 games. as a result the third game wasn't widely available. but i found the third game being technically superior to the second game and its quality as on par to the first game. maybe even superior.

Wonderboy in Monster World for Sega Genesis. It wasn't critically well received but I think of it as being on par to Zelda: LttP and Super Metroid.

It totally is! I used to love the arcade version.

For me, The Yakuza series. It's GTA without driving, but with that Japanese arcade mentality. It's essentially Double Dragon 3D.
First party Sega games are a rarity, I'll always be interested in checking out what they're up to.

Bolo - topdown networked tank game where you built defenses and had to capture bases. Worked incredibly well despite being played over the incredibly slow appletalk networks. Used to play it on MAC in the 1990s. Don't know if it was on any other platform.

Glider Pro - Navigating a paper plane around a neighbourhood and through houses avoiding obstacles (including paper shredder, fans, candles, drips, etc) and collecting powerUps and stars.

Don't think they got bad reviews. Don't think they got many reviews... So just disappeared

Glider Pro sounds awesome. Have you played Flower on PS3?

System Shock 2 - one of the greatest and most unheard of PC games of all time which lead the way for RPS's (Role Playing Shooters).

I thought that game was great when I got through it on the Wii Virtual Console a few years back. After that I bought a couple more Wonderboy games in the Wii shop that were originally on the Sega Master Syatem and TG-16.

I have never played it, I'll definitely check it out if you recommend it.

I have heard that it is similar to the original Deus Ex The Conspiracy and that blended Role playing and FPS elements very well.

Looking Glass Studios made SS2, they split off to form Ion Storm (Deus Ex) and Irrational Games (Freedom Force, then 2K bought them out and they made Bioshock). It's a bit dated but the game itself is beyond brilliant. I don't have time to express it in words because my tea will be ready in 30 minutes (it would take longer than that to do it justice). There is a decent HD texture pack for it too. Check this guys video out for it. It got to a point (after multiple completions) that I could only play it for short periods of time because it was intensely atmospheric. This is easily in my top 5 games of all time and I prize replay value in games that's why the other 4 games in there are multiplayer.

EDIT: If you play this game you will notice how subsequent games have taken many elements from it, this (along with SS1) is the father of modern day role playing shooters.

Well, I really like Beyond Good and Evil. And I am not sure how many people of heard of it.. but my favorite game I've ever played is Star Control 2. I think the Ur-Quan are some of the coolest villains ever.

I've always heard good things about System Shock 2, I've just never got around to playing.
