Seeing as this is out tomorrow, and already out if you live in mainland Europe, anyone else going to be giving this a try?

I loved the original MTW but I found after all the wait Rome total war was just too disappointing for me. Yeah nice graphics, the map interface for the campaign was a nice touch as well but I really hated the AI's inability to be much of a challenge and without a multiplayer campaign mode it confounded that even more. It was just stupid behaviour like the way phalanx's were handled for the greek orientated factions, the AI general's suicide charges into your lines head on and all the exploits people found. Then there were the silly fantasy units and the hollywood cleopatra interpretation of the Egypt faction. Also the barbarian factions were so generic and silly looking a few months down the line i just felt very disappointed in it.

Now the original medieval on the other hand I found far more enjoyable and I hope they haven't just taken Rome total war's game engine updated the graphics and brought in a medieval theme without resolving some of the flaws of RTW. I read alot of what the developers have done to improve the AI and I hope its going to be more acceptable then the mess which was RTW. Even with the realism mod it just always felt like there was a real mess behind all the fancy graphics.

I like some of the ideas behind MTW2 I just hope im not gonna be getting burned when i go and pick up my copy tomorrow

Rome: Total War is one of my favorite games, I didn't know there had been a Medieval Total War before it. I just love the two dimensions it has, you are an emperor making long term strategical decisions and then you are a general commanding your armies into battle. It does get kind of boring after a while because in the battles you are always doing the same: storm the gates, get in and make your way to the center of the city; and in the campaign mode things move too slow, it can take you days of gameplay to move an army to the other side of the map. I hate when a city I own rebels against me, but that happens. Overall it was a great game and I'll be looking out for this medieval II if the system requirements aren't too high.

Update: I don't have enough RAM :(

My experience with the Medieval: Total War series is limited to demos, but I like what I've seen. Unfortunately, I'm flat broke, meaning I can't get them.

Medieval TW 1 was the last (and first!) game I bought full price during first week of release. I usually wait a bit till the games are patched and playable. In most cases, you find that a game isn't worth the initial hype anyway. I loved MTW at first, but found the campaign game got tedious very quickly. I hope all those useless princesses and agents have been removed for MTW2.

I didn't even bother with RTW as despite the official reviews, many gamers pointed out the lame AI and the other limitations. I also found MTW to be lacking in serious strategy beneath the glossy veneer. Anyway I've tried the demo of MTW2 and it does look very, very impressive so I just may give it a try. Though I'm loath to rush out and buy it till I get some community feedback, as the whole serious has always looked good at first, the problems only become evident after a few plays.

There has been some interesting developer blogs telling how they really have boosted the AI this time, if this is confirmed, I'll definitely get it.

Its actually not bad at all really though there are some silly bugs here and there nothing really game breaking like the initial release of RTW. And no silly little fantasy units. I like the castle/city system now were a settlement is either dedicated to military as a castle/fortress settlement or money/culture making as a town/city its quite a good idea.

Been playing games as France and Venice i like how each faction has a differnt feel to it right down to the accents they have. Though for some reason denmark has russian/eastern european sounding accents which doesnt sound right at all  Theres alot of tongue in cheek humour snuck into the game in little places from the sequence of assassinations and spying to the new general speaches. Haven't played it long enough to get to the stage of gunpowder units or invading the new world with the aztecs. Ive carried out a crusade to the holy land though

Theve improved the campaign interface alot over RTW the map feels just the right size for europe when moving armies around. Especially to go on a crusade to the holy land its either ship or walking down through turkey and takes awhile.

Heres alittle screenshot anyway of my small french force in the beginning of my french campaign assualting the city of Rennes in brittany which in history at this stage was an independent dutchy but in this is a "rebel" city.

Glad you're enjoying the game Laz! Really nice screenshot, too. Are you running at max graphics?

Apologies for being facetious, but do they really think they can all hide behind that one tree? Actually, I think the knight on the left is saying "That's not a monster, it's just a bunny rabbit...."
