Buying games, and then never actually playing them.

Apparently I am not the only one that does this. It's been a problem of mine the past few years especially. Especially when Steam sales are concerned, I grab games I think I will play eventually and then months to years later, never booted them up once. Even my Xbox 360 and PS3 sit there with hardly any use despite owning games for them. I mostly just watch movies on my PS3. I used to play games all the time, now I feel like I spend more times talking about games than I do playing them.

Anyone else here do this? It's very rare these days for a game to entertain me(Assuming I start playing it in the first place) beyond the first few hours. I've been rather impressed with how Borderlands 2 has hooked me enough to play 40 hours in the first week. Thats the kind of time people put into an actual job, but anymore, thats rare for me to do with games even though I used to do that all the time.

You need to have your video game systems and HDTV in a private room such as your bedroom. There you can play with nobody around most of the time, and sit fairly close to the screen. That's what I do, and I play video games constantly.

If my video game systems were on the large HDTV in the living room I probably wouldn't play them very much either. Sitting far back with other people around doesn't sound very fun at all. I strongly suspect this is the main reason people buy video games but don't play them very much.

I definitely get more games than I play. Sometimes a certain platform will re-capture my attention and I'll get some games for it. I rarely even finish games to the end either, I tend to play a game until it becomes a bit of a grind for me and I'll go on to something else. I also only play for an hour or so at a time usually, unless it really catches my interest. I still have a number of unopened games that I just haven't got round to playing yet due to the number of games I have. I do enjoy the collecting aspect, but I will only get games that I'm pretty sure I will like once I play.

What I said is probably the case with most so-called "casual gamers". Their video game systems are on the main HDTV in the living room, and they play sitting 8-10 ft. back with family members around watching them. LAME

That can sometimes be the case for me, however, eventually I will play it.

Actually in my case, that isn't it at all. My PC is in my bedroom, and my monitor has 3 inputs, which the PS3 and 360 are hooked up to as well. So that might account for some people, but isn't an issue for me.

A smaller HDTV is better for using in your room and sitting close, but your computer monitor might be a bit too small. I play my Wii and PS3 on a 37" Sony CRT-HDTV.

Eventually I will force myself to play any game that I've spent money on, so no. Although I have downloaded free games and thought "I'll start that later" only to leave it unplayed when I eventually remove it. And I do have a similar thing with books, I buy them more often because they will look nice on my bookshelf than because I expect to enjoy reading them or will attempt to read them any time soon.

I tend to buy more games than I have the time to play. My backlog keeps getting bigger and bigger, and I have had a hard time finishing games in the past gen. Heck, with longer games, like rpgs, I've had a hard time getting very far into them period. But, I buy games with the intention of playing them at some point in time, even if it's years down the road. I don't want to miss out on games I might be interested in, just because I don't have the time to get to them at the moment. Actually, to be honest, my interest in videogames kind of fell by the wayside in recent years, but the spark has recently come back, which is just fantastic, since that means I might be able to start the climb up backlog mountain. As for why I was spending less and less time with videogames, it turns out I was playing too much modern garbage, so I have since fixed the problem. Of course there has always been a steady flow of new releases worth playing, like Tokyo Jungle, which just released on the NA psn last Tuesday. I just wish good games weren't rare exceptions these days.

I also enjoy having a videogame collection, and even collect swag that comes with certain games, most of which are from Japanese devs. But, I don't have a museum. I open any and all games the second I bring them home. If it's a game that could become scarce before long(usually Japanese games), I'm pretty sure the longer I were to leave such a game in its plastic, the more difficult it would be to bring myself to open it, so I decided a long time ago that I'd remove that dilemma before it even comes up. A game is worthless to me if I can't play it anyways.

I have a few games that weren't played yet. Most of them I got a few months ago, but there's one I haven't played yet and I got it a few years ago. Gonna have to slow down on buying games I suppose.

I have a PSN account with PlayStation Plus. With all the free game downloads, my console just has a bunch of unused games sitting around in the memory.

I did download Borderlands last month. I'm currently working through my Skyrim addiction to play it.

I was a Plus member, but that was the problem I had with it. PS+ pretty much paid for itself with all the discounts, and free games. I just never got to a lot of it, and it ended up being deleted anyways, once my membership expired. Even if you stick with PS+ though, content does expire. While I prefer to have physical copies of games if I can, I do have a downloadable collection, and I'd rather not let it go either. PS+ is designed for the modern gamer who doesn't care about having a collection, and just wants to play games, beat them, and get rid of them afterwards. Besides, I can't even keep up with my backlog as it is. The free games just added to the pile, and as I mentioned, I never did get to a lot of them. I think PS+ is awesome, and deserves more praise than it gets, but I decided that it's not a good fit for me.

I forgot to mention that I also have other regional psn accounts. I don't use my UK account very often, but I did buy Malicious before it came out on the NA psn. It's the Japanese psn that really fascinates me though. All that means is that I have a backlog of games in two languages now, instead of just one.

Do you guys even have a Backloggery account? It actually helps you to reduce it.

I have a huge collection too...but recently I haven't been bothered buying games as I have stalled playing them.

Hopefully Sonic & All Stars Racing Transformed gets me playing again as I loved the original.
