Anyone else try this yet? I got it last Monday and haven't been able to put it down much. I've already been to Fran's village (seen how much they suck and why she left), right now trying to find her friend Mjrn to get us through the barricades. My take: really liking the story so far, the new battle-engine is much better than standing in a line, really liking the characters and dialog, overall this one's more than worth playing and like a good game of this sort I'm getting pulled in about as well as if I were reading a good book. Of course I'm really not that far in yet but so far this game really seems like it might be off the hook, should be interesting to see where it goes and how it ends - if it ends up rivaling FFVII I'll definitely let you all know.

Honestly hated it.

The FF's I like are 3 (American Numbering) Which is the one with Terra and FFT for it's amazing battle system. I HATE every other FF honestly.

And you still keep trying the new ones? That's dedication to hope if I've ever seen it.

I try a lot of titles.

FFT gave me a lot of respect for FF. Too bad the guys that made FFT are gone. That was the best FF by far.

I stopped playing Final Fantasy after FFX.

Lol, so I hit a soar-spot with everyone by mentioning it? Well, its ok. Most of my friends, practically everyone I talk to has much more familiarity with VI and onward, they all tend to agree that out of what they've tried VII was the best (it did have a really good plot by the time you got to disc 2 or 3), VIII I couldn't get into for the life of me, IX kinda mimicked a lot of VII's elements but much different drawing style and feel, X some of the characters I thought were kinda lame and/or annoying but there was a lot to do in terms of side-quests aeons, and power-ups so I enjoyed the process of getting Rikku and people like that who already had haste up to 9999 on their attacks and such. X-2, complete crap - horrid, I bought it by accident and returned it by the next day. XII - IMO looking pretty good and I think it can hold its own weight much like IX did against VII. If III is really that great sorry I missed out on it, if its on something like Nintendo, SuperNintendo, or something of the like I could give it a shot - as for handheld systems never got into those myself.

Still waiting for it over here, it doesn't come out until March 2007 I think.

I played Final Fantasy from IV to X-2, and liked pretty much all of them except IX, mainly because of its paint by the numbers design and general awfulness in character design and story. VI is my absolute favorite, but VII isn't that far behind. X had the best battle system, but the game itself was too easy. It's a pity Square probably won't use a battle system like that again in their games.

X-2 was fun! Some of the many side-quests are dead boring, but I liked the much faster ATB and Job system, with all it's campy Sailor Moon-style style class changes. The main cast had way more personality in that one over FFX, too.

I haven't played Tactics because it never came over to Australia, but I might get my hands on it via other means...

FF3/6j was/is my favorite videogame of all time (Chrono Trigger slides in at #2).

I didn't care much for FF2/4j, but that's probably because I played FF3 before I ever got a chance to play FF2, and it felt kinda primitive. Besides, it had that thing where the magic-user characters never actually hit with their attacks like in FF1, and that annoyed me.

I liked FF7 and FF8, but wouldn't put them high on my top 10 list if at all. Loathed FF9 and 10.

Tactics was great, but a different kind of game and I don't really compare it to the others.

I want to rent FF12 before I try to buy it, but ever since Blockbuster started doing that no late fees thing, they only stock 2 or 3 copies of even the most popular games, and so there's never one in.

As a random side note - am I the only person who doesn't like voice acting at all in video games? I mean, I'd be perfectly happy if all the scenes were done in the same fashion as the ones in FF3. When Kefka tells Emperor Gestahl to "shuddap!", I caught my breath. FF10, with all its fancy garbage and cool characters and voice acting, couldn't even come close to doing that.

Since J-Pop is one of my absolute least favorite things in the world, I try not to even think about FFX-2.

FFX-2 had great voice acting, definitely 100% on the original's. Leblanc was also the best comic-relief villain since Ultros. (Zorn and Thorn were the worst)

I think all that was at least a bit better in XII, cheesy and theatric at points but I still liked the delivery a lot better than stuff in X.

FFIII always felt less like an epic story and more like Monty Python to me. That's why it and FFT are only FF's I like.

hmm, sounds like we're drawn in by different angles then. I guess I'm just real surprised with all the people who seem like their fans of FFVII, they're everywhere and all over this site, that almost everyone in this thread has come up for FFIII and for the most part kinda put the later stuff on blast. Everyone's entitled to their opinions but still it surprised me a little.

I bought Final Fantasy XII a couple of weeks ago. I have to spend a lot of time grinding to keep my characters at a level high enough to continue doing stuff that isn't boring, and to be able to afford spells/abilities/equipment. Because of that (and the battle system), it reminds me of Final Fantasy XI. Otherwise, it's a pretty good game.
