Shadow Over Mystara - D&D - Arcade
One of my favorite arcade games of all time. I had the privilege of playing this back when arcades were far more abundant; a time before they basically vanished off the face of the earth. I am thankful I was around at the time to fully experience the arcade environment. Because it was awesome.
Here are the characters:
My favorite: The magic user. (This is because the spells in this game just wreck stuff, and its so incredibly awesome to witness) I really liked casting cloudkill in this game. Its a great deal of fun)
I've been playing it on MAME32K on and off over the years, and it's nice to have the ability to revisit such games every so often.
OMG I have to go redownload and configure mame just so I can play this game , I was of the older game the few times I played it and didn't know about this one. Elf and Magicuser (I read that as Magi-Cuser haha) look so awesome!
Your topics make me terribly nostalgic and sad. The old arcade games were so fun and are a long-lost art, I always thought the graphics and music were so great. Xmen Vs Streetfighter and the 2d VS games by Capcom still impress me more on a technical level than any of their new games. One thing that does kind of give me hope for the genre and its style is that a team of developers recently released a completely homebrew roleplaying game for the Sega Megadrive and they've expressed interest in making more types of games. Maybe we could see talented video game programmers, artists and musicians make more games like the one above and please no more dinky "retro" games that use crappy chiptunes and use the same 8bit "nes" style graphics while not even feeling like a classic game.
Go for it. The game itself has a high replay value, and the elf character is cool and fun to play as well. Regarding the magic user; aka. magic-cusser, (power word profanity) magic-cuser, (excessive excuses) etc, etc, he is also playable in the black outfit without a stereotypical cool wizard hat, as featured in his character stat image above.
The world I once knew has been more and more appealing lately. I am not entirely sure why. I have made numerous calls to the past as of late… I do miss those days that much I know.
