Inspired by the "Opinions on Sonic" thread.

Most of you feel that Sonic's games aren't as good as the originals. Which is fair enough.

Okay then, how about their Non-Sonic output?

Here's the list they've created:

Ristar
Phantasy Star Online
Billy Hatcher
Nights
Burning Rangers
Project Rub
Chu Chu Rocket
Samba De Amigo

Not a very big list, but they've made quite a few Non Sonic titles that sort of reminds you of Sonic in terms of style, but they are pretty much great games (even in the midst of the "bad" Sonic games).

Thoughts on any particular game?

"Phantasy Star Online" is the Nintendo Gamecube's only online game that I've heard of. Does the online also work on the Wii since it's backwards compatible?

The only thing I can comment on is Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg. IT was only a demo I played, but MAN, was it fun. That was one of the few games that briefly convinced me to buy a Gamecube (I didn't go through with it in the end, but that's a different story).

Out of all of them, I happen to like Ristar and Billy the most.

I'm surprised Ristar wasn't stopped... felt too much like a Sonic copy for my liking...
I only really got past the first boss, after that I didn't get much further.

Not unless you open up the hardware and modify it to accept a Gamecube broadband adapter.

How does Ristar, a character that uses its hands to attack feel like a Sonic game, which is about speed?

It's a challenging game, I even haven't beat it yet!

I recommend Nights to anyone though...it is so relaxing. :D

I would class Puyo Puyo too, but it was originally a Compile franchise before they went bankrupt and SEGA stole the IP.

I dunno... it just feels like a copy to me even nitpicking it down to every detail... maybe I shouldn't have said too much as that makes it sound like an exact replica.

No worries dude, it's your opinion.

BUT, Ristar is based on the Sonic 1 ENGINE, but the younger staff made it.
