Well, I'm not a big fan of the cheats who do it. Such as dupers, hackers, botters, beggars, basically people who don't really earn it fairly. However, lately since playing a game that I have invested much time in, I've been thinking well I have tons of in game currency, I could make so much money off of it wow... and from what I know of it isn't actually punishable by law. The way this game is going is kind of down, full of cheaters, major trolls, just a lot of bad folk and I'm tired of it. If I could find somebody to sell to, I could make a small fortune... Oh probably around 10 grand. So what do you think?

I have sold virtual currency in the past. Check into how it would affect you legally in your country, and what action is normally taken to someone in your position / region. If the risks are small, sell that gold!

I don't mind goldsellers as long as the gold has been earned legit. obviously companies don't like them because of legal problems and lack of revenue.

Go for it. Might as well, seeing as how you've earned it.

Which game and how much gold? If you don't want to play any more and are willing to risk your account, go for it.

I have nothing against it, I actually brought zeny for RO long ago. I'd probably do the same for WoW if it were safe just to save a headache leveling professions.

It's good for you, sure, but you could be banned.

However, I have to also say that I say you shouldn't. Gold selling ruins games, honestly. If you traded in-game items/cash for in-game items/favors/whatever, then it's all good. But letting people that have more money skip earning something in-game just ends up being unfair for the others, and moves gold around without any real pattern, thus effecting the economy.

I think it's awful but if you are quitting anyways maybe it would be worth it. The worst they could do is ban you and 10k is a lot of money.

Is the game Runescape? I think it's getting pretty bad lately too.

That said.........

......anyone remember WAAAAAAY back in the day in Vanilla, when gold farmers would sit in Azshara and other out of the way places and endlessly farm all the mobs? On Tichondrius, we used to have a blast forming hunting parties and going out and massacring all the Chinese farmers. They would get camped so hard, and any futile efforts to resist us were utterly crushed. It was almost cute watching them try to actually fight back sometimes.

No, really. They would occasionally try to band together and fight us, just to get creamed horribly. Good times.

This sounds hilarious. Sounds like something I need to get into when I play a mmo again.

Considering that these 'Chinese farmers' are underpaid workers in sweatshops, I think that's pretty awful. People are just trying to survive.

There's other ways for a country to get income. I read an article once that said WoW releases expansions and updates in China much later than other countries, because of the gold farmers. And I have to agree, because it DOES ruin the game to inflate the economy.
Hell, they even make prisoners farm gold. It's ludicrous.

Countries have plenty of ways to get an income, yes.

In a incredibly exploited society where you have no chance of being anything other than a menial labourer, and the industrial job opportunities are running increasingly, perhaps the average proletarian does not?

It is unfortunate, I agree. But I cannot support gold selling because I've seen what it has done to games. Especially "F2P" games that are generally run by Korean companies that don't really monitor or actively pursue banning them. In fact, some let it go somewhat because it heavily inflates the economy, which means more micro-transactions for them, even if they speak against it like they mean it.

See: MapleStory and Nexon.

I'll be perfectly honest here, I really couldn't care less. It's a PvP server, and the moment you step into the game world, you're as fair game as any other player. I'm not about to go against the entire point of a PvP server just because a bunch of poor Chinese laborers need it in order to make an illicit buck. If the shenanigans of the locals make farming gold on that server simply non-viable, then the farmers have no choice but to accept the fact that they won't be making a buck there at all, and should pursue more fruitful endeavors.

The fact that what they were doing was disruptive to the game economy and against the TOS only hurts their case more.
