I just bought this game today for the PS3 and started playing it, and I have to say this is a really awesome and unique game. You play as a photographer and travel to a wildlife reserve in Africa where you take pictures of over 60 wild animals and earn money to buy Sony-made camera equipment and supplies. What amazes me is how much detail was put in this game, the animals all look very realistic in 3D graphics and they behave like real wild animals. Plus you can find info on each animal you find complete with real-world photos and videos curtesy of National Geographics.

Of course as you'd probably expect this isn't a popular game (probably because it's not filled with machinegun-shooting soldiers or demon-slaying warriors), but I think anyone who likes animals or educational stuff or taking pictures (or a combination of the three) should really try this game. It's just amazing and different from all the mainstream games for the PS3. :)

Actually, I think the reason why most people disliked it, from what I heard (Besides the music, which is supposedly great.), was that it didn't do enough for a collection type game where you take photos. You can take photos in Dead Rising games, Fatal Frame, and maybe some others.
Also, I'm not sure if the game was an on-rails camera game, but Pokemon Snap was and it was a great (At least in my opinion.) way to change the formula, as it had a puzzle and skill aspect to it, which kept you coming back. It was just interesting to play altogether.

Not trying to dis Afrika, just saying what I heard. I personally don't own a PS3 yet.

Well I've started playing it and so far I think it's a cool game. It's not a rail game like Pokemon Snaps, you actually get to go out of the vehicle and explore the area looking for animals to take pictures of which is great. One of the coolest things about the game is that they have a field guide with real-life pictures and videos of the animals you find which I think adds a cool touch. Though I have to admit the graphics in the game aren't as great as they made it seem, I was expecting something with a little more detail and the African enviroment where you explore and look for animals doesn't really have that much detail. But seeing the animals is still really cool, and I like how they have the camp set up where you can organize your equipment and pictures and talk to your co-worker.

BTW it's cool to know of another person who has played Pokemon Snaps, I had that game too when I was a kid and I had good times playing it! :D

I beat Snap way too many times, but nothing wrong with that, I suppose.

The first thing I thought of when you said you could get out of the vehicle, is whether or not the animals attack you. =P
Would add a danger aspect to the photography.

Actually I believe they can attack you. I haven't had it happen to me yet, but I've been warned not to get too close to certain animals like hippos. Also I believe that if you do get attacked by an animal you wake up inside the camp and loose all the photos you took. I think it is cool that they added that to the game, gives it a bit more realism. :)

lol, yeah. Though a bit more realism would be losing your entire save.
I remember a game called Steel Battalion for the original XBOX did that, if you didn't eject from your mech fast enough.

Well it is an E rated game so I guess the developers figured that having little kids see their character get ripped apart and mauled by a lion wouldn't be a good thing. So they came up with a way for you to still get attacked by animals like you would in real life but wake up inside the camp as if you were rescued from danger, and loosing your recent photos would be a decent way to prevent you from letting that happen again.

Ha, that is humorous, actually. But I remember, also, that you could be attacked even in Pokemon Snap, which had an E rating if I remember right, so I don't see the big deal.

Really? I don't remember that. It really has been a long time since I've played Pokemon Snaps. :P

Anyways Afrika isn't a bad game in my opinion, it has a lot of really creative ideas thrown in and it's actually educational about Africa's animals but in a fun way. You should definetly try it if you ever get a PS3. :)

I'll do that, once I can save up for it.

Though, obviously, LittleBigPlanet and Infamous come first.
