Hey, guys. All my life, I have heard of pokemon at certain points in my years, and after all that I have seen of Pokemon, I think I have described some autistic traits in some of them:

Mew - in Pokemon the First Movie, Mew acts childish and wants to play with Ash, but at the same time tries to avoid Mewtwo's attacks and also attempts to reason with Mewtwo.

Mewtwo - his speech may sound more neurotypical, but the way he seeks revenge against humans in movie #1 and detests being a "slave" just like the other Pokemon suggests he displays some symptoms of Autism.

Dark-type Pokemon - some of them are quiet, and some of them are extremely territorial.

Loudred - Every episode with Loudred in it usually involves Loudred sleeping peacefully, and sometimes Loudred goes on a rampage and flies into a meltdown whenever someone wakes it up.

Politoed - Misty's Politoed usually flaps its hands and dances weirdly, and repeats its name over and over again.

I'll think of more to come.

I know that spotting autistic symptoms in Pokemon seems tough seeing that all the Pokemon mostly either say their own names or make weird noises, but if you look closely enough, you'll see what I mean.

Anyone else here ever discovered autistic traits in Pokemon before?

The creator of pokemon, satoshi tajiri is autistic. Finding autistic traits in pokemon and pokemon trainers would not be much of a surprise :)

More accurately, Satoshi is an Aspie. Still, its pretty cool that a fellow Aspie created something so HUGE as pokemon. -Power Girl

the charmender trio i.e. stages, got me adicted to pokemon, I at first recieved the toys and have quite involved in it. I guess i felt like I was just a shy Charmender but I had a Charizard inside me. if you look at a few of the early evolutions they exibit some very simular traits. I know some aspies like myself have been knowb to have some anger problems.

Charmander's development is an interesting aspect of the show. (One of very few.)

I also noticed that some Pokemon have AS qualities:

Cubone - Has no social skills whatsoever and is often depressed (very common in AS).

Cyndiquil - Often has a shy personality.

I'll post if I find anymore.

All pokemon are autistic:
They can only say their name, and have flat personalities. ;P

You mean autistics can only say their name and have flat personalities? That is not true.

I think Pikachu, Mew, Mewtwo, and Charmander are aspie Pokemon.

Those were some of my thoughts too, even squartle who had problems understanding what he was suposed to do or Bulbasaur who was a very quite type. Maybe Charizard is the fact that we can often have violent outbursts aswell.

Cubone as a species aren't austistic, they are depressed because there mothers die shortly after they give birth.
And the the games are canon not the anime, this means pokemon (except for Pikachu found on route 1 and Chatot) aren't able to say there own name and simply exhibit animalistic cries.

weird that the writer has AS tho...[/quote]

Writer? Oh! you must have thought they were talking about the anime. No the writer isn't autistic the guy who made the games is.
