Playing pen and paper D&D online
Anyone play D&D online? I am NOT talking about D&DO the MMORPG. I mean pen and paper D&D. More to the point, would anybody be interested in an online game of D&D? There are a couple of good free virtual tabletops so in some ways online can even be better than in person on pen and paper (and I strongly prefer virtual tabletop to PBEM). A combination of this and skype could make for a good game. I'd even be willing to DM; it would be nice to DM for aspies who will understand if I get in a flap for a couple of minutes because I have a mind blank and temporarily completely forget a rule or plot point or have difficulty getting my words out or something. I have only really played 3.0 and 3.5. I'd consider 4th edition or Pathfinder but I'd probably prefer 3.5 with a few house rules if I was to be the DM because it would mean I wouldn't need to do a whole load of extra research. We'd only really need a handful of people to be interested for this to be worthwhile to make it happen so if anybody is interested then leave a post here and lets see if/what we can do. If you do leave a post then it's probably best to mention your time zone.
If I were to DM there would probably have to be some kind of lower age limit (probably 18) because, honestly, it's not a good idea for a 29 year old man to have online "friends" below a certain age because even in an innocent context like a D&D game there are people who could easily misconstrue it and make a fuss (parent walks in and wants to know why you are speaking to an old-sounding man on skype) and I have no desire for anything like that to happen. I also don't want to feel like I have to not-include certain elements in a story because they are not age-appropriate.

I've DM'ed a few Play-By-Post RPGs, and they always broke down within a few months due to various reasons, like players missing the posting deadlines or trying to control the actions of each others' characters. Some folks tried to turn the games into erotic mind-games with under-aged kids playing. Still others either did not know the rules, or they knew the rules too well. Some would simply cheat.
And then there were the munchkins -- people who, when told that the game would be set in Venice during the Renaissance Era, insist on playing cyborgs, ninjas, or cybernetic-enhance ninjas.
