I'm still playing Traveller, with a campaign centered in the 3rd Imperium (c. 1105). I've also incorporated Stargate into the game, although the action takes place some 3500 years after the end of the SGC series.
Except for one family that meets at the local Knights of Columbus hall every Monday night, there seems to be not much AD&D action in the Orange County (Ca.) area.
How's it going for you?
Haven't been able to get out to a group lately, and my wife's been in too much pain to have a group over (finally got an actual doctor to look at her, not her usual LPN, and she might well have fibromyalgia; she sees a rheumatologist in a couple of weeks to verify). Accordingly, the
Vampire: the Requiem chronicle she had been running with me and my cohusband is on hold until she gets good treatment.
I tried satisfying the itch with
World of Warcraft, but there's not much RP implicit in the game mechanics, and the few people who say they want to RP really just want to talk like RenFaire rejects and have cybersex in Goldshire. Picked up on
Champions Online, based on Hero Games'
Champions, recently, and that's been a lot more fun for me - since you can solo just about any mission in there, it's easier to think about what you're doing in terms of what your character would do, rather than what holds aggro so the warlock can hit the target with DoTs. (Also, since everybody's superheroes, there's none of this "play your class" nonsense. What you do in a combat is dictated by your powers and your enemies' reactions. Behemoth-type characters get in there and punch, because that's what they
do. Energy projectors, like the electrical Tempest or fire-based Inferno, try to damage targets as much as possible while they're still at range, because they can't take hits as well, unless the character has a close-in power that helps. My Tempest character, Lightning, likes to attract a group's attention, get them in close, then unleash Sparkstorm, a power that hits every target within 10 feet with electricity.)
