What is the scariest game you ever played?

For me, it was Condemned Criminal Origins.

Cry of Fear. Can't get too far without chickening out.

"Fatal Frame" series rank one on my scale. "Silent Hill" series is good too and so is "Hunting Grounds" but they aren't as scary as "Fatal Frame".

I wanted to play Cry of Fear, but it wouldn't work on my PC for some reason

Tie between the original Doom and Doom 2 - the sound monsters made when they spotted you (especially if you didn't spot them first and weren't ready for them) was blood curdling.

Gregory horror show for ps2 scared me to death as a kid. I can't really remember any more recent games scaring me, im not a scary game fan really.

Silent Hill 4: The Room probably (also Silent Hill 3)

The scariest games are the ones where enemies sneak up behind you or suddenly jump out at you. Like in Alien Trilogy where the aliens made a kind of swishing sound, sometimes I'd think I could hear one but would turn round and there would be nothing there, so next time I'd think it's ok it's just background noise then an alien would suddenly jump up in your face. Also Goldeneye 007 in two-player mode - my brother and I used to sneak up on each other and make each other jump.

The controls and the horrible camera angle made it horrifying to play when I was younger
Sometimes me and my friend punched the Playstation if a scary part came up or something spooked us, to shut it down.

Amnesia: Dark Descent

This includes all of the third-party custom stories that were made along with the original story. Some of them include effective jump scares of teleporting naked men hurling towards you.

Surprised no-one has said F.E.A.R yet. Ladder scene is iconic. I agree with Fatal Frame and Cry of Fear. I have never played any third person stories on Amnesia so I can't comment, but I didn't find the main story that scary. Another good one on PS2 is Rule of Rose.

I love playing scary video games, but the only one that ever truely scared me was the first Siren game for the PS2. I think the fact that the game was insanely hard helped add to the scariness, but the shibito enemies were just plain creepy and sometimes I would be stuck in a hiding spot for an hour trying to figure out how to get past them.

I have the new game Siren Blood Curse for the PS3 and while I do enjoy the game, it just isn't as scary as the first one in my opinion. I guess because they made the game way too easy.

I could add that I found the beginning of Resident Evil 4 (the village part) extremely creepy. Those chainsaw guys used to hunt me in my nightmares Fatal Frame definitely ranks high in the fear factor as well.
