Why is it so difficult to buy a Wii?

I don't see them in stores. Just the Wii games.

Currently? Because a new revision is due, and the Wii-U is due to come out this month with a day 1 patch hot off the press. Not exactly a good sign.

With the new Wii-U coming out, I'd get an original white, red or black Wii used and cheap.

I'm pretty sure they are going to be purchasable exclusively from preowned sections, if they aren't already discontinued already. Once Nintendo are selling a new console for twice (or more) the price, then they will discontinue the wii. After all, the wii u will be backwards compatable, so why should they bother making wii's anymore?

It's not going to get any easier to find one to buy.

That's odd. Wiis are easy to find where I live.

My advice is, if you care about Gamecube compatibility, when you do find a Wii make sure you don't buy it new, or rather, don't buy a black Wii. Why? Because the 2011 Family Edition looks just like a regular Wii (to my knowledge I think they only made that one in black) but it won't play Gamecube games. The reason why is because they want to make GC games downloadable on the Wii U. Otherwise, a Family Edition would be just fine.

On a sort-of-related note; will the Wii U come in various colors?

At launch, there is a basic model that is white, and a deluxe model that is black. Hardware wise, the difference is the size of the storage, with the basic having 8gb, and the deluxe having 32gb. The deluxe also includes the game Nintendoland, and a charging dock for the controller.

That's a surprise. They are high in stock were I live, especially the pre owned consoles. Local ads are full of them too. You can get a used one here for around £30 now.

You must be thinking of something else... the original white Wii only has 512MB of internal storage, and 2GB if you add an SD card.

Thats because I was referring to the Wii U, not the Wii, as the question I was answering was about the Wii U.

I got to play the Wii U yesterday at Gamestop. I'm definitely not getting one yet because there's nothing on it I want that I can't have on other systems, but I'll look into getting one in the future. I love the new controller. It interacts seamlessly with the TV. It's also surprisingly light and fun to hold. There are these two really comfortable grips on the back of it. All the buttons are easy to access and the screen on the controller can be used as a touch screen. I didn't get to play any games on it; they had the option for demos for some reason, but none of the demos would play. The videos played fine though.

I bought Nintendo Power yesterday and they reviewed Super Mario Bros. for Wii U and said that the person holding the big controller can save the other players from dying by doing things like drawing platforms and making power-ups appear. So that sounds like the game is playing on both the TV itself and the screen on the controller.
