I have played this a little bit in the past, my gf actually played avidly and we still have part of the extensive collection she used to have before we lost it between several moves. We have started dusting off the decks and playing again with our other roommates and I will say I find it a great deal of fun.

I have constructed a green deck which I think works awesome and I am having a blast. It sort of lets me work out my analytical muscles, and being a seriously visual person, once I see a card or two, I can remember them and how to use them pretty well.

Anyone else play/played? Thoughts?

Used to love to play, but most of the people I played with have moved to other states, and one just grew sick of it.
Always making up different decks to run. Perpetual favorite was a white angel deck.

Right now I also got a really good white deck going. It has pretty good damaging cards, but most of them are to destroy artifacts, enchantments and to lock opponent creatures. Plus I have the kitsune card that as long as I have a certain ammount of hp, my white creatures take no damage. I also have a circle of protection black, i heard its banned scept for house rules now, but my friends dont mind i use it.

I had a decent mixed deck; nothing fancy or overly powerful. I would enter competitions where the rest of the players had super-maxed their decks, and were intent on wiping each other. By the end of some games, I had the most powerful 'live' deck, and would win the game.

Never the second time with the same players, though...

My angel deck has several cards that help boost hit points, with smaller angels adding extra benefits to either the player or the larger angels. Bigger angels carry the weight of damage dealing. Tied with an opponent once because his monsters were so powerful I couldn't take him out, but I had massive hit points and kept healing myself so he couldn't take me out! :)

Found an awesome looking card called Platinum Angel. As long as it's in play, you can't lose, and your opponents can't win. Bet that's banned in proper tounements, but I still think it would be awesome in any deck. It's an artifact card, so most decks could incorporate one.

Have started developing a green/white elf knight deck. Any suggestions?

I play a lot of Magic, especially sealed and draft tournaments. You might say it's a special interest of mine lol. Magic is awesome.

I have a Platinum Angel, it's perfectly legal in formats which it's sets are in. Same thing with Circle of Protection: Black. These actually aren't considered great cards in tournaments. CoP just isn't powerful enough for the mana that it uses, and Platinum Angel might see rare use in combo decks that put it into play without casting it the traditional way, but it's considered too fragile to really be relied on.

Most of the people I play with and I have ousted CoP from our decks more or less for that reason. Frankly, they are a pain.

We don't play in proper tournaments, so we know little of them. So if a platinum angel isn't considered too terribly powerful in a tournament, what is?

They tend to try to make the cards not too overpowering in tournaments so they don't dominate the scene. There are some really good cards though, and there are some banned cards in some formats.

You can find a list of banned cards in each format here: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/A ... ces/banned

CoP isn't too tough to deal with, enchantment destruction will work and running multiple colors in a deck works as well. Generally the cards that are really good are the ones that come out quickly and have a huge impact in the game. How powerful a card is depends entirely on the format though, so I can't really tell you what is super powerful for you without knowing the format you play.

I was introduced to Magic the gathering by the owner of a secondhand book store that was down the road from me he held Magic the gathering competitions once a week I used to take my Magic the gathering deck and go play Magic the gathering with the owner of the bookstore when I did not have much to do at home. I haven't played Magic the gathering for a while now but I would love to get back to playing it again.

I actually got reintroduced to this game a couple weeks ago! I knew a little bit about it in high school and mostly learned by observation. I've played a couple games, but I wound up borrowing decks since I didn't have any money to purchase my own (and I still don't to this day).

One thing I hate when creating a deck is buying booster packs. They're just random, you may never get what you need. Internet is far superior, although more expensive often as not.

See, I actually liked buying booster packs. It was the only form of gambling that I like. The sense of surprise can get addicting.

I started playing Magic back in 5th grade when on December 25th, 1994, my cousin bought me a starter deck of Revised edition for Christmas and I loved it. I haven't played regularly in years though, most of my friends don't like the game, and WotC releases way too many sets a year to keep up with. Its not a cheap game to play by any means.

Its hard to believe that the game will be 20 years old next year. I honestly never would have expected it to last this long, especially in the wake of the late 90's how many CCGs were released and failed to last. Magic did it first and to this date still did it best.
