This was once suggested but nothing came of it.
I'm going to organize a chess tournament for any WP members who'd like to play. Due to the spread of WP members across many different timezones, the best place to play would be the WP Chess module. Just post your interest, and I will do the rest. Since the WP Chess module does not support rule checking and manual undos, PLEASE only competent (ie. know the rules) players join.

Expressions of Interest close 24rd of May.
Fixtures will be posted 25th of May.
Tournament will begin immediately after fixtures are posted.

Tournament rules:
1. Colors will be randomly assigned.
2. Each player has 24 hours to make a move, if the player fails to make a move in the allotted 24 hours, he/she forfeits their match and the opponent moves onto the next round. 24 hour timer starts after both players have made their opening moves.
3. If there is an odd number of players, a lucky random person will get a bye for first round of competition.
4. Have fun! Losing is one step closer to winning.

Ammendments:
If anyone has any ammendments or additions to these rules, such as allowed time per move, please post your recommended ammendment to the thread.

Sounds fun. I'll probably be completely wiped out in the first round, but count me in

I haven't played chess in 20 years, but I'll have a crack at it....

Is it possible to observe the tournament? I like to watch things like this!

I'm hopeless at chess, too many things to think about at once.

Yes, all games will be viewable. You only need a password to play one of the colors. I shall create the board games and PM the pass to the fixtured players.

Pity, but there were only 2 people interested. Takfash and Ghotisix. Not enough for a tournament. Maybe in a few months.

Maybe after I get some practise... but within 24 hours 8O I think that's a little unlikely for me currently.

I know the rules for chess, but have forgotten much that I once knew. I think it would be really fun and it would give me someone to play against other than my little brother (who can't remember half the rules). Count me in. :)
