So yesterday, a new Pokemon game got announced. 3D graphics. The rest of the internet explodes. WrongPlanet just goes about it's business like it's nothing.

Granted I don't care that much either, and it's amusing to me that I'm the one making this thread. I just think it's funny. I love this website.

@Zodai and IrishTusk: To each their own.

Anyway, I am psyched for this. Definitely digging Xerneas and the starters.

Hope I can preorder this sometime! :D

Now that you mention it, it is kind of weird/funny that no one has mentioned the new Pokemon games on here, especially given that there's probably a lot of people on the spectrum who are obsessed with it.

Pokemon was probably my strongest special interest as a child. My mom used to tell me, "you eat, sleep and breathe Pokemon!" (which means that my whole life revolved around it). I have played a little bit of every generation that has come out, but the only ones I played to completion were the first and the second. I dunno, after that it just seems to have lost its magic for me somehow. People who are still obsessed with Pokemon act like there's something wrong with me because I outgrew it.

I was just too lazy to start a thread, I have been looking into it quite a bit, even watched the announcment video on my 3DS.

I am very excited about the changes in 3D looking enviroments that are quite different to the original, and the battles now seem to resemble what was done in Pokemon Stadium with full 3D character models.

I am going to choose Chespin, it is adorkable.

Apparently word is each starter's evolutionary line will have a secondary type that will give them an advantage to their weakness's secondary type, this was hinted by the reveal video showing the starters performing one of the secondary type attack after doring an attack of their type: the grass pokemon (Chespin) performed a dark attack, the fire pokemon (fennnekin) performed a psychic attack, and the water pokemon (Forakie) performed a fighting atttack.

^That last part is interesting, though it bugs me a bit 'cause Fighting/Dark/Psychic isn't a proper triangle. (because psychic does zero damage to dark). A properly balanced triangle would be Ice/Flying/Fighting or Rock/Flying/Fighting.

Well there have not always ben true balance between the pokemon as there has always been some quirks that set them apart like they might have more aggressive stats, better moves. There is also the possibility of learning the move Miracle Eye which would remove a dark pokemon's immunity to psychic attacks so they have normal damage.

It also gives Chespin's group a major weakness to bug type attacks (considered a basic group with increasing popularity) as a trade off, Fennekin's will take normal Bug Damage due to a weakness/strength split, and Forakie will recieve a resistance. reveresed again against the quirky ghost group: Chespin's having strong advantage against ghost pokemon and attacks, with Fennekin's being weak to the attacks, and Froakie's fighting attacks not affecting ghosts. And lastly Chespin recieves a strong disadvantage agains the deffensive Steel group, Fennekin has a fire strength against, and Froakie recieves a fighting advantage against.

Lastly the 3 pokemon are also call outs to previous pokemon, Chespin being a call out to Seedot's evolutionary line with the nut thing and Dark traits. Froakie being similar to Poliwrath with the frog thing and fighting type. And Fennekin being a possible reference to Ninetails being a fox with fire attacks, and psychic part being reference to Ninetails being able to use psychic attacks.

If I was actually to make a guess, we might legendaries have also had a slgith facination between the Psychic, Dark, Fighting triangle, fighting pokemon themselves were a big part of the previous gen's legendaries, we could get some Dark legendaries this time.

Also I don't think I mentioned that this game seems to be set in at least an alternate version of France this time, there was an Eifle tower like structure in the trailer, but it may spread over more of Europe we don't know.

What would be cool if they added Light as a type, so it would be

Light→Dark→Psychic

^That doesn't fix Dark being completely invulnerable to Psychic. I think they need to just nerf Dark a wee bit, make it so Psychic is not very effective rather than completely ineffective. Psychic was OP in Gen 1, but they nerfed it way too much since then.

A couple new types would shake things up though, I agree with that. Light would make sense as there's already a dark (and already existing moves that could be changed to Light type). Unsure as to what another type could be, maybe Abnormal as a counter to normal?

But as it stands the Grass element is already at a dissadvantage with a total of 5 weaknesses deffensivley, and 7 types that are resistant to its attacks. Fire has 3 type weaknesses defensively, and 4 types that are resistant to its attacks. And Water at the best has two type weaknesses defensively, and 3 types that are resistant to its attacks.

As far as you can see it is alrady not balanced, the secondary elements actually help round them off not just amongst themsevles, but with other pokemon. Even water fighting is slightly balanced back with Ghosts being immune to fighting attacks, Ghosts being pretty popular due to immunity to Normal which a common atack type.
