My 360 got the RRoD yesterday, after freezing at random points in gaming over the last several months.

Tomorrow, I am purchasing a new 360 slim model.

I did purchase quite a few XBLA games on my previous abandoned account that I'll have to buy again if I want to play them again on my new console (I abandoned the email address that I signed up for that account with, and it has since been closed - and I forgot all of the passwords - damn it!). Well, at least I have no real desire to play most of those games again, anyway. There's only a handful of them that I am going to buy a second time.

In fact, I am going to be a lot pickier with my game purchases from now on - that means no more DotW impulse buys.

In any case, I sold off most of my retail games that were not RPGs. I kept a couple of shooters, a couple of platformers, and a few games that had local co-op, and I sold the rest. Now my game collection does not seem as overwhelming as it used to be. I'm happy I did that, actually. RPGs are really the only video games that I have any passion for (especially JRPGs), so I should not be distracting myself with other genres just because everybody else is claiming that a lot of those games are the hottest things on the block.

My wallet will be tight for the next couple of weeks, but at least I'll get a new XBox out of it.

I wonder why they don't ban 360's? If there is one thing that can cause fatal heart-attacks, seizures or strokes, it's RRoD's. /sarcasm

Ugh, I hate when consoles do that. I got the YLoD for my last PS3 (one of the original fat ones). -_-

Wait, RRODs are still around?

Regardless, at least you got your JRPGS ;P

Well, my XBox was a first-generation model. I bought it in 2007. It's a miracle it lasted as long as it did, actually.

A Microsoft rep made a smartass comment about this when the slim was unveiled. He said that the 360 wouldn't get the RRoD anymore.

He was technically right. It gets the Red Dot of Death now.

And I know quite a few people whose heat sensors have gone out on the slim (usually conveniently right after the warranty has lapsed) so they can't put discs in the system.

I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up making people leery about buying the upcoming X-Box 720, since Microsoft said the issue would be resolved in the slimmer 360s. If this issue was 'supposed' to be fixed in the Slim, how can anybody say with confidence anymore that it won't be happening in the 720s? It's going to be hard to convince people that this latest product also isn't a piece of crap, just one drip of melting solder away from the trash-heap.
